RX2 rear end
If you are referring to just the chunk, the answer is no. The 81 to first half of 83GSL chunks bolt right in. I have no direct experience with the swapping out an the entire rear end, but am guessing it will have to be shortened.
i heard only the 81-83 gsl rear end will, but please let me know, cause i can get a 84 gsl-se for 600 bucks that runs great. i would realyl like to swap every thing from it into my 72 coupe. or even my 71. lates matt22

Any chunk that's 83.5 or newer will fit, but nothing later. The only thing unique to the GSL is that it's an LSD unit, and it's the only LSD chunk that ever came to the US that we can use. If you're checking under old RX-7s, you'll want to find one that has threaded bolt holes on the input shaft. GSL-SE will all be larger-splined units with thru-holes that your axles won't fit. There's a GSL rear on thepartstrader.com that would have what you need.
LSD was an option on RX-7 GS, independent of the GSL option. If you find a S2 RX-7 with disc brakes, it will have the LSD chunk you're looking for. If it has drums, check the bolts in the input shaft to see if it might have an LSD optioned-in. It's rare, but I've seen it once.

In that case, you're better off just putting shock and spring mounts for the RX-2 onto a GSL-SE rear axle and using GSL-SE front as well. If you can find the right LSD, you can also convert the brakes from RE-Speed (one of the sponsors) that allows you to run GSL caliipers and discs on an RX-2 axle. It works great.
what do you mean your gonna run a second gen front end? And i agreewith Crit the 81-83 lsd and the GSL disks are the way to go. thats what i plan to do if i keep my RX2. Lates matt22

Personally, I would go to autozone and borrow a slide hammer (loan-a-tool service), take some metric sockets with me, pop the axles out, and just walk home with the diff chunk. If you want to use respeed brackets to use the disc brakes too, then just get a wheelbarrow and take the axle like he did.
Nice pic, by the way.
And don't forget to check that the driveshaft bolt holes on the diff are threaded. If they're not, then it won't fit.

Gambone here
I dont think I said the front end would just bolt up, your going to need to build a sub frame, look at the pics, the rear lots of sheet metal work, in the end you well have a MOST GOOD HANDLING CAR
This is my next try, has any one done it yet hehe looks like fun.
