RX-5 Help Needed
RX-5 Help Needed
Hello all, I have a couple of questions concerning my friend's RX-5. He bought it for $2500, so keep that in mind while helping me out, lol.
1) The 13B engine in it has a hole on the top back portion of it. It looks like it had a cap or something at one point, but attempting to find RX-5 specific information is daunting, at best. The hole is about the same size as the oil fill. Not sure if this hole actually affects anything, since I tried blocking it with some magazine type paper while it was running. (Trying to see if it was an air flow of some sort. By that test, it wasn't.)
2) The header has a leak that I feel at the junction inside the engine bay. It definitely looks ancient, and my guess is that at some point in time a previous owner tried caulking it up. The metal does not line up flush at all, and when I brushed it with the magazine from earlier a yellowish powder flecked off of it.
3) With the car idling for about 20 minutes, it mysteriously shut itself down. The exhaust overheat light was on in addition to the typical lights of a dead vehicle. I don't think the car's thermometer works since it never budged during the idling process, and with that I can't eliminate the possibility of a coolant leak somewhere.
Any help concerning this poor car would be greatly appreciated. I love all things rotary, and it would make me happy to see her be road worthy again. If my friend doesn't want her, then I'd happily buy her and start work immediately on restoration.

need some pictures to identify the stuff for certain, i am probably one of a few people on the forum who can actually help you as i own several cosmos (the were Rx5s in other parts of the world cosmos here)
I will need to get some more information though is the car an automatic or manual also, sounds like a stupid question but did you check the coolant level? The temp sending unit may not actually be hooked up or the thermostat may be stuck as well. these are some of the simple things. Any past maint history or vehicle history may help as well
