rx-2 engine swap questions...
Alright I been doing some research for my upcoming swap for my 73 rx-2 4dr..
I leaning towards using a 13b-re cosmo engine.. Few questions..
1. Using a 12a cover from a first gen, well it bolt up to the 13b-re and will then engine then be able to mount into stock location?
2. For oil pan I just have to reverse it and make a custom oil pick tube?
3. Will the turbos fit, or will I have to make a custom manifold, and go single turbo?
4. Well the FC turboII tranny bolt onto the 13b-re block?
5. Drive shaft, is there a drive shaft that will fit, or will it have to be custom?
6. Any fitment issues I'm going to run into? Current tranny is a auto.. so I have the wider tranny tunnel.. will the tunnle still need to be made bigger?
7. Will the slave cylinder fit?
8. What kind of intercool should I be looking for.. see many universal intercoolers I might be able to make fit... is there any dementions I should be looking for?
9.What flywheel would the 13b-re need? Did they all come auto?
10. If engine is from an auto.. Will it still use the same counterweight with a differnt flywheel? Or would I need to use a turboII flywheel and counterweight?
11. Is the 13b-re really worth the trouble or should I stick with a 13bt?
12. And if going with a 13bt same qestions apply..
Any information would be a great help.. Been doing alot of searching and haven't anything to answer all my questions.
Thanks.

i would personnally go with a 89-91 13bt, and change your car over to 5 speed, and use a microtek or other management system to run and tune everything. then upgrade your rear end to a Ford 9inch or a 8.8 you will more than likely have to custom a driveshaft, if you are gonna make big power so you dont snap anything pre-2nd gen. and then for all that power look into upgradeing everything else, IE: brakes and suspension. sounds like you want a fast little car thats dope. the Aussy's can help with more tech questiosn you have so you might also try them.
Mysely i think i would go with a 4 port 13b and swap it over to carbs. maybe later go with a supercharger. and really run it the Aussy stlye with a very clean wireless engine bay. I love how they take evefy useless thing off and really clean it all up nicley. Shoot there is even a guy over there that cuts into the sheet metal and runs wires around the engine bay, talk about extreme.
But back to the point, what ever you do jsut try to make things simple for your self later down the line. Lates matt22

Yes
You'll also have to redrill holes in the oil pan.
With enough time money and effort it may. I picked up a 2 that was in the middle of same type of conversion, and the previous owner was able to get the engine in with the turbos, but was going to have to smash to downpipe, and inner fender to get it to fit. I think it can be done, but you may be better off with a small custom turbo kit. <--- that is the route I chose.
I am pretty sure it does, but do not have direct experience with it. You should post this one in the Rotary Perfomace section.
Custom. Check out Cannon engineering in Burbank, or one of the many drive shaft shops.
YES
May have to trim a bit off the top, however I think the auto tranny tunnel has enough room.
Good news is you have several options. Bad news is they are all expensive. Because of the dimensions you have in front (23 X 12). You can remove the metal tube, in front, and get one custom made from Australia. I also think PWR makes one. Those universals will work, in place of your oil cooler. But, you will have to then custom fab lines to move your oil cooler.
Good Luck

Alright I got a turboII S5 enegine and tranny.. Here are the question, 12a front cover..
1. For the 12a front cover.... off any 12a 1st gen will work?
2. Will I still be able to use the CAS?
3. I want to use stock S5 ecu in the mean time till I save up for a stand alone, can I just leave the OMP pluged in, hiding in the corner somewhere.. would it detect the lack of oil? I don't want to be going into limp mode.
Yea, the only problem I'm looking at is getting the thing mounted.

Ok, think I got it all figured out, but the oil pan, reversing it, (rotating it 180*) seems to make almost no difference in rear clearance for my S5 About 1" or so, Is that really needed to clear the subframe and sway bar?

Thats with the oil pan in normal position.

^Thats with it reversed. So is that inch or so really needed?
And the oil dipstick runs into this flat part which will keep it from getting a reading since it is being pushed out.
^So I'm I going to have to bang out the piece with a hammer to give the clearence need for the dip stick?
