Rotary powered Morris/Austin/Rover Mini?
Rotary powered Morris/Austin/Rover Mini?
Any one got one or done one?
They stick VTECs in them here in the UK, why not a 12A or 13B? Must've been done some where already...
Cheers all,
Flint

Yeah, got that bit. How about mid-mounting though?
Lots of work but mental final product? there are mid-mounted motors in a couple of mini's at least here so that may be worth a look...!

Hello I have put a 13b EGI into the back of our Skoda Estelle using a VW Transaxle. This MAY be a way of doing a mid-mounted Mini conversion methinks......................
Anyway I can give you some pointers if you are interested?

If they wouldn't be so rare you could use a Citroën GS Birotor setup: transverse mounted, FWD, rotary... Since those engines are basicly NSU Ro80 ones (very little differences) and Ro80's had them in length, you might be able to work something out. NSU's can be equiped with a Mazda engine rather simple, using the NSU gearbox.
It's all a matter of finding the correct 'box, as it needs to clear the engine. The main problem is that the Mini doesn't have much space under the hood and therefor not much room to fiddle around with. However, I've seen a Ford V6 powered one with 4WD lately, so a FWD rotary must be possible aswell

Think I've may be seen you at Pod, not that long ago I saw a rather 'odd'
sounding skoda doing donuts/pissing about up between the cafe and the bogs - think it **** itself (clutch/trans?) on the only run I saw though!
That you? Was there with me mate from RE:Worx - he ran his first ten that day in his FD

You can't at all use the NSU trans. It's a) semi-automatic b) not strong enough
I just mentioned it to show FWD ones have been build around that NSU engine both with the engine transverse or in length.
For a high performance mid-engined car there's only one choice of gearbox/transaxle: Porsche. A Renault one is probable acceptable aswell, since plenty of kit-cars are using it with massive V8 engines.
