Rotary Powered Mitsu?

Me and my friend were joking around tonight, and we had this very odd idea.. Swapping his 99 Eclipse's 4AGT with a TII engine.. Would this be possible, and if so, would any transmission modifications be needed? Again, this was just an out-of-the-blue idea, just mainly for *****'n'giggles. Take it easy.

you migh tneed some sort of adapter plate between the motor and tranny. not sure how that would work, but anything is possible.

I'm not good with Mitsubishi engine codes, so excuse me.. But it's the 99 GS-T engine that was also in the Evo VII, along with the Eagle Talon TSI..

Sorry, man. The mitsu is front wheel drive. You'd have more than a hell of a time to get the car moving.

lol i thought he posted it as the all wheel drive version. I wonder if that could be done. by all means it was done back in the mid 80's why not now with better technology available.

The AWD Talon TSi and Eclips GTX used transverse engines, with the AWD pulled off the diff. Only Subaru, Volvo Porsche and Audi have drivetrains that would work well, as they have longitudinal engine layouts. The subaru has a very far-forward output to the front axles and would be my pick for an AWD TII tranny.

You could go the other way around and do a mits. 4g63, 4g64, or g54b into a 2gen RX-7. I may do a 2.6L g54b turbo into a 2gen one of these days. I've got the motor, just need a decent shell and a turbo II trans.

It would require some custom mounts but its possible to make it a RWD only car. Hell we've seen a tranversley mounted 12A. Damn crazy Kiwi's.

The swap is possible and has been done before by a guy in AU. He put in a Lancer though with a trans adapter plate. It was NA and Carbed to keep it as simple as possible. I personally think it would be a pointless endeavor.

To clear up a couple things, the 4G63 as it is known from the DSM, is NOT the same as the one in the EVO VII. The DSM a.k.a. the Eagle Talon TSI, Eclipse GST and GSX and the Plymouth Laser RS all shared the past generation of the 4G63 that was also in the Lancer Evolution I-III and the 88-93 Galant VR-4. While it should be noted that US Spec Galant VR-4s are EXTREMELY rare as there were only 2000 units in 1991 and another 1000 in 1992.

The current generation of 4G63 started life with the Lancer Evolution IV and continues today with the Lan Evo IX. Although further tweaked over the years it shares nothing with the DSM 4G63. The Lan Evo IX will also be the last 4G63 powered car. Mitsubishi will be upping the displacement on the Lan Evo X to get one up on the STi.

It is interesting to note, that even though there have been different variations of the 4G63. The 4G series as a whole has been in production for over 20 years with the first variant of the 4G63 appearing in the Japanese Starion in 1984.

LOL... I played a trivia game where I was asked to name 10 auto manufactuers in 60 seconds. I asked "from what region?" I can name 10 just with all of the GM names.

that is all common knowledge if you know anything about Mitsubishi, but what I don't get is a company that is involved with the space industry, elecrtonics, food, texteiles, chemicals and the Aerotech( mitsubishi Zero is still one of the best handling planes of all time) why would you make awd cars that have transverse
mounted engines????that causes understeer mybe thats why I like Subaru more they are involved with Aerotech as well but they used the same tech like the opposed EJ20 and all it's variants and the engine is mounted the right way.
