Which rotary is my best choice

I'm finally giving up on my Opel motors and am going to transplant a Rotary into my 1970 Opel GT body.

I want it to be easy, but I also want the best perfomance the first time out.

I may have to steer clear of the turbo as my passenger side engine bay is quiet tight, so which stock rotary setup is my best starting point to begin with.

This will also be a daily driver so reliabilty will be key, and I'm in texas so the one that adapts to cooling the best in traffice with A/C is also a consideration.

I've looked at teh 12a's and the motor mounts look like the easiest to work with, and I've owned 88's and 89's non turbo's and I'm comfortable with the FI quirks, so tell me in your opinions, Torque and driveablity which are my best options.

Depends on how much hp you want to push. You can mod a 12a very well, and they're much simpler than the 13b's. However, a s5 13b is a nice engine, just make sure you go with the N/A if your bay is tight.

I can tell you which thread is your best choice lol! Just kidding.

A 2nd gen 13B with a 12A front cover can be done without too much trouble. This will give you the 12A mounts you mentioned, and the FI as well.

seriously, point me in the right direction on the site to past threads so that I don't have to bore you with the same questions always asked over and over again.

I did much searching last night after posting this one and I found much useful information. I also learned that I wasn't the only owner of an 88rx that kept a pair of vice grips under his seat to pinch off the incoming fuel line when it had randomly flooded.

Also, please clarify for me the terms s4 and s5, do these distinguish the fuel injection change after 89??

also is that the same as a 4 port intake vs. the 6 port intake on the 13b.

Forgive my lack of terminology base for the RX's.

And for anyone wondering, I do realize that an RX7 will handle and ride better and look just as nice as my Opel GT. I've just had the opel forever and after going from the stock 1.9 to a 2.2 Opel with weber sidedrafts I'm still not satified.

Anybody in Dallas/Ft. Worth want a Body when I rip out its heart??

I love how the Opel GT looks, they are VERY rare around here, I've never seen one on the street.

I think you should use a 4 port 13b. You can find them in older RX's and they also came in the REPU(truck). Look into porting also, a good sized streetport will easily give you 200hp with a 13b and properly tuned intake(carb or FI) and exhaust.

The reason I would use a 4 port instead of a 6 is beacuse there is much more room to port it, and you also don't have to worry about finding a way to open the 5th and 6th ports, which aren't meant to open until ~4000rpm. You can just wire them open, but that defeats the purpose of using the 6port motor.

s4 is '86-'88 and s5 is '89-'92 (can be turbo or NA). It's just a quicker way of saying '86-'88 or '89-'92.

I'd go for the 4-port 13B also. Decent torque, no more complicated than a carbed 12A, no electronics to fool with. Those Opel GTs are pretty light, though, and a 12A would work well, too. I saw an Opel GT at an autocross a couple of years ago. The body roll was unbelievable!
I'm pretty sure the car was bone-stock, though.
