how do i know if it is a cosmo 13b? all i know is it is a 86-91 13b single turbo injected with a top mount intercooler.

Then your fine. The cosmo engine is easy to differentiate. It has the rounded bumpy top part of the engine. Just like the cosmo 20b. Check my pics out in the start of the thread, the top of the engine says 13b-re. Just look at that spot if you ever wonder. But you are good with the one you have. Also the cosmo one I have, never made it to the US in a production car, only jdm shipped here.

also i like your wheel choice. where did you find em? i have the 4 lug design so i dunno if i will be able to get porsche wheels to fit

The latest update is that I made some fittings work for the oil lines. Took some weld on bungs and some fittings and made everything to 8an Steel braided line in the mail. Mounting location for the oil cooler is found and the windshield wipers are now black not silver.

One of the fittings.

And the mounting location for the oil cooler. This spot conflicts with the deck lid closing mechanism so I have opted to get a hydraulic deck lid opening system to solve that.

I have to say your work is beautiful. You grind all of you welds flush and all of the piping is gorgeous. Are you TIG welding everything, thats what it looks like. Do you do something involving welding for a living?

Thanks My dad said at his work he just got a tig welder but he hasn't used it much. At home, I have a mig and gas welding setup. My father does most of the welding, he has been working on cars and has been welding since he was young. So he has much experience. Im still not the greatest at making welds like his so I do less visible pieces :p

looking good. your oil cooler is right where my intercooler is. i was looking for a radiator with a oil cooler inside it as well but i dont know if it would cool as good.

i got my ecu wired up partially but im not sure about grounding it. where does the ecu ground? there are a couple wires that are labeled ground but i think thats sending out a ground....maybe its grounded by bolting it to the chassis....any ideas?

Yeah just get a seperate ones, that way if one of the units fails, then you only need to replace the bad one :p I believe checking with a fluke meter, looking at the wire diagram and wire bundle should help. Search around, I'm sure someone on the forum or the internet has figured it out for you already

sure they have...i thought this was the best place to check. i got it giving power to some of the sensors and such but its impossible to check the injector wires until i get the engine to turn on.

whats next on the build?

Hmm, well post a thread asking fro specific help in the right section and someone may help ya out. Waiting for the microtech ecu and goodies to come, and my dad just marked out some cut lines on the new deck lid, and we found some weird plastic wire grommets that we can use for running wires from the inside of the bug through the firewall to the engine. AS we wait for the parts i nthe mail, I'll try to put the wiper motor and wipers on

Looks like im gonna jump in on the game too, haha just getting ready to start mine grabbing all the parts i need first though. A few questions, would your MAF sensor work with the stock ECU and where'd you get it? The stock air box is a little big.
Where can i find a Wiring Diagram for a 86 13b? The guy i bought this thing from cut some of my harness so i need to repair it and extend it to fit. You guys got the hard work, mines a baja so i have very little space restriction. Keep up the work it's looking good.

Well the cosmo engine i have originally used a MAF sensor, i asked the guy who was selling the jd mengines if he had one and he threw it in my shipment for free. If the 86 13b has a map, use a map with the stock ecu. Search the forums and google fro the rx7 wiring manual. Hope it gets under way, these rotaries are quite impressive

UPDATE: Both oil cooler fittings came, 2 more straight fittings arriving tomorrow from jegs. Going to hook the wiper motor hopefully, and plan where some of the oil lines will go. Stil lwaiting for the microtech stuff to come.

Went to a bug car show this weekend, some great looking bugs there. (all aircooled) They would definately not like my bug since they are all purists, plus they would prolly get angry if i got my bug on the dyno they had hahhaha. But nonetheless, the show made me even more antsy to get the car rolling as soon as possible!

You are right, I posted some pictures of my Karmann Ghia on a few VW forums and received some kudos but was told not to expect much from their site because most of them are purist.

Nice built BTW. I do wish I had gone with a turbo from the begining.

Thanks Yeah, I just personally think that when people make the cars their own and custom it is more unique and cool Yeah I would have already been done with my rotary bug lie a year ago if I had started with a 13b before the bug engine hahha

UPDATE: The microtech units with bosch coils just arrived. The engine has been slowly stripped down to eliminate vacuum lines etc. My question is, what is the bare minumum of vacuum lines/little gizmos needed to run? I want to get just the necessities left on the engine. I will upload pics of my progress tomorrow morning.
