Rensis in an oldschool?

I read the new motor in oldschooltread and just had a thought.

Would'nt it be the best way to get more power to your old car to put a renisis in there?

I dont know what they sell for these days but they cant be that expencive?

I would love to build a Rx5 (Not from my car but another one) with some more power and just some mild customs.

You are right you can get alot of power but what if I want decent gas mileage besides a Cosmo/Rx5 is more of cruiser than a sportster

I think it would be cool to do a Renesis but can't se how with all the sensors and stuff unless you go totally aftermarket on ECU

It is definitely more of a possibility now days since you can use tuning tools like COBB Tuning's AccessPort which re-tunes the factory ECU. By using an Access Port or something similar (which plugs into the OBD II port) it is much more flexible than your typical stand alone. No need for a custom harness or sensors. You could build your car as if the Renesis was an OEM option from the factory back in the day. Plus, you can override check engine lights/other codes, read codes, store multiple maps (valet mode map is one of my favorites), launch control, download maps, and still do custom tuning with the ProTune software.

It could be a pretty sweet swap, but I already have most of what I need for my 13B-RE setup. Bummer though, because I have a buddy with lots of Cobb Tuning experience and another close friend with a Renesis swap laying around... but I don't feel like paying what he wants for it.

^Renesis with a carburetor??? LOL! Yeah, I think I've stumbled across a pic of that car too.

I don't really get the point of a carb w/ a Renesis though. With the compression ratio as high as it is, they better at least have some great kind of electrontic ignition system or that thing would be knocking plenty. Who knows, maybe he got the engine for dirt cheap and just needed to get it rolling?

I heard that the exhaust port design of the renesis makes it impossible to run a carb, at least for a longer period. If the mixture is not 100% correct, you will get carbon & other junk buildup into the exhaust ports.
I have taken apart a few renesis engines myself and even in a standard Rx-8, there is an amazing amount of junk in the exhaust ports.

Probalby a stand alone ECU would be the best choice?
This is far from anything I'll do for some time but as the renesis has sold so much (compared to lets say the REW) I think these types of conversions will be more common in the future.
