nice RX-2 Coupe found @ U-Pull-It [Sacramento]

Well, today for some reason I had an impulse to go over to the local u-pull-it in Rancho Cordova looking for random parts for a MPV van and something that I could use for my RX-2 horn switch.. so I'm walking around the Mazda section and come up on a 100% stock pretty clean RX-2 Coupe. I about flipped out, it was 99% complete and unmolested except for like 3 badges.. well, that is until I got to it.. now it's more like 85%. Heh.

Anyway, it's still pretty nice.. has the stock 12A twin dizzy, 4 spd. tranny, it's a metallic brown Coupe with white vinyl top (torn up), white interior (seats are decent), black headliner (torn up). I grabbed the dash pad (mint! I couldn't believe it), grille, turn signal cluster (yay!), rear & side view mirrors, sun visors, glove box & door, hood hinges, front retractor seat belts, and other random small bits here and there. I spent a little more than I wanted -- $165, but that dash mat was a total score. I've been looking for one of those forever.

I was tempted to try buying the whole car, but it looks as though it had sat around in someone's backyard or a forest for several years. There are rat turds and pine needles everywhere! Even inside the dash controls, etc. and it has moss growing on one of the front fenders. Needless to say the body panels are still quite straight. The hood and one hinge got a little bent up on the drivers side, but everything else is good -- fenders, doors, trunk are all pretty straight. All glass is there and nice, all chrome strips still intact. I might go back and try to grab the windshield actually, but want to figure an easy way to do it first. Taillights are still there, though one chrome surround is a little dinged up. Get this -- it has factory A/C too, which I think is pretty rare. I was tempted to grab all that stuff also but the overabundance of rat turds dissuaded me.

So, if anyone is looking for any RX-2 parts out of what's left, let me know and I might be able to go grab it. I may be willing to part with some of the parts I grabbed, but it really depends on what it is. (No, I'm not sellin the dash pad or turn signal cluster, heh) I would have shot pics but I never usually bring a digi cam to the yards.

I need some inside-of-the-door parts and the little wheel that holds the hood prop rod.

What door parts? The hood prop rod wheel was in good shape.. I almost snagged that, but it was like 100 out there and I was starting to burn up.. literally.

Wow.. yeah I know it was a deal. It was just one of those situations where you're like "I'm only going to be here for 30 min. and spend $20." Then I walked up on that RX-2 and thought to myself, "aw crap I'm going to be here for hours and spend $200." Heh.

I'm looking for the front end grill stainless molding, as well as trunk hardware. Was the trunk solid? How many miles were on the car, and what year was it?

I didn't do much investigating in the trunk because someone threw a shattered windshield from another car in there, but it appeared solid.. no idea what could be under the rubber mat though. I believe mileage on the car said 60k or around there but that's probably 160k or more, who knows. It's a '73 coupe.

I went back today and grabbed more stuff. Turns out it has been there since 6/23, I'm surprised nobody had pillaged it earlier.
