Anyone know of any companies that resore or remake headliners?

It really isn't that hard to do yourself, especially if you have the old one. Peel off the old liner, remove the foam, then glue down new foam and stretch new fabric over it. It's a perfect first upholstery project.

There is no foam it is a stretched vinal over some wire hangers. There are a couple tears in the liner as well around the rear window

Just checked my Cosmo...Yep, same thing as your RX-4. I'm just going to make a modern style headliner with a fiberboard backing, thick foam and then nice fabric/vinyl. Should be easy to make it hook to the existing mounting points and it will last longer as well. You could do the same as I expect our inner roof structures are exactly the same...

Do the Rx-5's have a roof consol? You have a good idea on making a modern headliner, I will do some reaserch on how to go about it

Also aaron check to see if your rear window trim is sewn to the headliner. It is in my car all along the rear window and over the doors

I don't have the roof console, but do have a huge hole in the roof for an aftermarket sunroof.

I'll check today to see if it is sewn in.

Looks like the headliner on my Cosmo is glued to the flange at the back and at the sides.

So before I go digging through the snow to get under my old FB I figured I would pick a few brains here first.

I need to pick up my Rx-4,
I own a jeep cherokee so I can only rent car dollies,
this applies lots of stress to the front end of the car,
I have lost my rubber bushings for the sway bar where they go through the control arms,
This may have become a problem.

Question is this.... do the fb's have the same type of setup I could rob for the rubber bushings?
If not could I still pull the car home without fear of ripping the shock towers off and bending the control arm cross member?

The swaybar in these old rx-4s looks like it controls alot of the forward and back movement of the strut
This is the best pic I have of the Rx-4.. I just dont want to dig out 3 feet of snow to look under my fb

paint the interior tub and put down new sound deadner and underlay. and fit the GSL-SE suspension and rear end into the car.

That will be my to do list.
Last night, fixed the window regulators so they work and slide freely.... the definatly could use some new plastic sliders but they work smoothly

I had a machinist friend make me new slider blocks for my windows. He seemed to think they were pretty easy to make. Didn't charge me anything to make them either. Looks good man, keep it up.

As for those sway bar bushings, check out pedders suspension. I think they may have new polyurethane bushing for the Rx-4.
http://www.pedders.com.au/catalogue I bought my front coil springs from them.

Your build is coming along nicely.Im doing a resto on 74 rx4 in Vancouver,it isn`t moving along as quick as yours and im not going as radical with all the mods..
Ihave been looking for a good original new or used headliner for years and have had zero luck,i think im going to have to do a custom one.

Please continue to keep us posted,im following along quietly...most of the time!

Yeah now that the car is home it is being worked on from 6pm to about 1am everyday. I almost have the front body panels lined up with good gaps all the way around, I have also finished stripping the interior of sound deadener and any surface rust, then painted it with rubberized rock guard. Now I will get some matting and new floor insulation put it in and continue with putting the interior back together.
I am having no luck finding anyone who wants to touch the headliner, I may have to wait for Aaron to make his headliner for his cosmo then I can use his for guidence on making my own newer style liner
