N/A to turbo
N/A to turbo
I am looking at at doing an engine swap to my '97 miata I am most likely going to put after market turbo(s) on it. should I get a N/A 13b or a already turbo 13b. thanks for any help. I don't know much about rotary except for the whole idea of 3 moving parts. Any suggestions would be nice. Also i have read of swap kits but can't find any through web searches if anyone knows an exact address I would be very thankful.
Why bother? The motor that's in the miata is a VERY boost friendly motor capable of producing great numbers on the stock block. I know of a few locally and they're all very stout and quick cars.
If you must insist tho, start with a turbo 13B.
And one more thing, if you don't know much about a rotary you really shouldn't be thinking about one in the miata, the miata would be much more headache free without a rotary.

I know there are several turbo kits for my 1.8L. But I also haven't seen any of them bring over 250 hp I think that was rear wheel not at the fly so not to shabby. and I must insist... I do know about rotary atleast as much as I can without working on one. I've read many a novels worth of forums about nearly every aspect of them and the only way to learn more is to get one. But I love my miata in everything but in off the line power. I know it is not a dragster and I have learned how to drive it "right" the way it was meant to but I would also like so off the line action. Anyways thanks for the advice. I know that my 1600lb. miata with a 350hp 13b is kinda extreme but that's how I am.
You can make 350hp on the stock block 1.8 w/ the properly chosen turbo kit. There's people here locally who have done it. Check out flyin' miata's turbo kits, they're bar-none the best.
If you want a lot of power, it can definatly be done with the 1.8. I seriously think a 13B would give you more headaches than it's worth. But hey, it's your money.

To continue this discussion about 1.8L miata turbo power even the flyin miata's very own race car with added displacement of 2.0L and with 15psi boost and runnign 105 octane dyno'd at just at 300hp. that is absolute max that engine can do as far as i know.
As always it depends on how much time and money you're willing to spend. You could buy the FM turbo kit and have it installed and running in a weekend. A turbo 13B swap would probably take several months, unless you want to drop a load of cash on top of what you just spent and get a good shop to do it. It would take a lot of fabrication and custom work, definitely not a bolt-in deal. On top of that, buying the motor, transmission, ECU, and all the misc items and custom shop work would cost at least twice as much as any of the FM kits. So it's your choice, but a 13BT swap will be alot more expensive, take a whole lot longer, and be filled with tons of headaches along the way, and would probably be less reliable than the 1.8.
And your Miata weights 1600lbs? How'd you manage to lose 600-700lbs?
