more carburetor problems

'82 12A in a '74 RX3. A few problems. Replaced the gasket that goes between the aluminum part of the nikki and the cast part with the valves in it (10mm bolts). Now when i spray starter fluid on the part where the bottom of the carburetor meets the black plate before the intake manifold the RPMs go up a lot (12mm bolts). There's also water boiling on top of that black plate. Motor wont hold idle under 2 grand. Can I remove that black plate with vacuum ports on it (12mm bolts) and replace it with the gasket that comes with the rebuild kit? If so where should I hook up the vacuum advance and oil vents and engine vents to the carburetor? Can I just plug everything on the nikki and plug the vacuum advance and the vents? Rat's nest removed, Nikki stripped down. Here's my setup of vacuum lines:

that spacer needs to be in place , it has permanent gaskets applied to each side and is intended for multiple use . Everything on the carb is there for a purpose and should not be deleted . You need to find the vacuum leak and repair ,, you have already discovered where the problem seems to be coming from just deal with it . take lots of pics before you do anything so you know exactly where everything goes ., this link might help you figure things out . Hope it helps Good luck. Redirect Notice

All those 12mm bolts are tight as you know what... It seems to be sucking it in all around agh the top of that spacer though. would it hurt to put a gasket between the spacer and the carburetor? I'm not sure what you mean by permanent gasket, but i don't see one on it.

no that won't hurt anything even use a LITTLE atv sealant on both surfaces just make sure when using the silicone gasket maker that you don;t plug off any holes for vacuum etc. If you are going to use sealant use something intended for heat.

When you have the plate off check for warpage and clean the threads well on the bolts just because they feel tight doesn't mean they are as the threads could be stuck and dirty .Also check real close and make sure you have all the vac hoses in place.

Take your time and check things good
