lost all power


Hi guys I need your help. I got a new oprima battery for my repu I plugged it in and nothing yes the battery is full power the cables are clean and checked. I traced the cable and the power stops at the block with 3 fuses when i take the fuse out i get power but when i put the fuse (new) no power at all and the battery gets hot fast.

No power

You are checking for potential across the fuse. There should be no potential (voltage) across a good fuse. Check potential to ground.

Someone correct me if im wrong, but if the volt meter is showing voltage, doesnt the mean theres a short here? Hook up a light bulb to each side and see if it lights up. if so you have a short. kthxbai

There is no fuse in that pic. There is 13v potential across the terminals. If you were to check potential to ground you would have 13v on the right (connected to batt +) and 0 on the left terminal.

What im saying is, from that pic, the voltmeter is getting a voltage reading, meaning that one side is grounded. I think we can safely assume that neither side should be grounded.

This is a correct statement.

Just like mentioned, DC circuits need to be tested to ground. A better test would be to ground the black probe and then touch each point. This will show where an open/short may occur.

AC circuits are tested from one point to another to see the difference in potential.

So, in that case, There is a short somewhere, coming from the side i circled in red. time to start chasing wires.

Something is supplying power to it. Try another test and put the black probe to ground (a body point) and touch the red to each side of that fuse holder and report what you get.

I have the factory wiring diagram for the REPU so I'll dig it out and see what that circuit is used for and what could cause that reading.

Its the side the black probe is on, otherwise voltage would be negative. And the power is being supplied from the battery. I think OP is MIA.

Just so you know the two small fuses below the main fuse are for the amp meter only and nothing else.

Put the black probe on the screw above the red circle (screw holding fuse block to chassy) and but the red probe on the battery side of the main fuse you should have battery voltage, (13.31v) them move the red probe to the other end of the main fuse, if there is battery voltage (13.31) your fuse is good, if you don't have voltage your fuse is bad.

If you had a Short your voltage would be much lower and there would be Smoke coming from somewhere. There is and OPEN in the system some where.

Check the voltage at the start of the big white wire with the red strip coming from the main fuse (black probe to the same screw as before) should be battery voltage then check the other end of the white/red wire at the ignition switch, there should be battery voltage there. If you have a wiring diagram it should show you which wire should have power for each position of the ignition switch. then check back with us.

Remember it is very important that the black probe is always to the chassy not another wire.

Good luck, my truck drive me crazy sometime too.

There is no such thing as negative voltage with DC. DC should always be measured with respect to ground.

ok guy. what i meant was when you put the probes on backwards(ie red to ground and black to hot), the screen shows a negative sign.
