Just noticed the RX8 has 4 coils-what was Mazda's reasoning?

Just noticed the RX8 has 4 coils-what was Mazda's reasoning?

I have heard the waste spark can be damaging. Does anybody know is this is why Mazda switched to 4 coils?

Mazda is using a very advanced computer controlled ignition for the renesis. It does not run in wasted spark, advances timing for better performance unless it detects detonation, and changes the firing order at idle to trailing first, leading second, don't know why. Maybe it has to be the 30% leaner mixture at idle...
