i need help!

ok here it is, somone gave me a 72 ford couriour truck today in great condition! no rust and no dents! but anyways, its got that old mazda 4cylinder engine thats blowed up.. so what i wanted to know is how hard is it to put (and what should i put in it) a carb 12a or a egi 13b?? what about the tranny will i use one off of a 7 and what year, or do i use the stock 4speed out of the truck itself... i want to do this project and have it done by the end of summer, so will i have the problems with the mounts or what do i need to do??? ill really thank you for your input, and what other stuff do i need to know..thanx

That tranny wont bolt up to a rotary, u'll have to use one from a 7. U'll also have to have some welding done since it will need the mount for a rotary welded in. Drill the spot welds for the 4 cyl engine mounts to remove them. The wiring for EGI engine is another issue, unless u know a good bit about wiring. U might want to stick with a carbed engine. I don't know if those trucks used a clutch cable or hydrolic.

hmmm thanx for input..you know i really dont know what kind of clutch it has?? yea i know a little about wiring for the egi. hmmm i do have more spare 12a engines. but i like the idea of egi... the computor hookup will be the worst! witch engine would be the easiest to put in that truck (mount wise)? thanx again

One isn't going to be easier than the other, the easiest will be to use a carb rather than FI. Look under the hood for a smaller master cyl attached to the firewall next to the brake master cyl.

1st gen mounts should be easier. Carbs are easier. A 12A should have enough power for pretty much anything the truck's chassis could handle, such as towing and hauling stuff. Remember, this is a 4 boinger truck. Only the true REPU had upgraded brakes and all the rest to handle heavier loads. But then again, a carbed 4 port 13B like what the REPUs had is also a nice engine to use with nearly the same HP and a little more torque.

well what maybe about the 13b with 1st gem mounts like off of gsl-se, and carb it?? i really would rather have a repu, but thats is VERY unlikely and VERY impossiable in north carolina..so this is the next best thing i can do!

You could build a 4 port 13B with 12A side plates and GSL-SE rotor housings and carb it. Just pop out the 12A stationary gears and install 13B ones from any '76 to GSL-SE or later 13B. If you don't, they'll be like 5mm short in the 13B's rotors' gears. Were you gonna run a RB Holley or stock Mazda carb?

I'd just put a 4-port 13B in it like REPUs came with.
Or a GSL-SE motor converted to carburetion. You can use a '79-'80 RX7 tranny, or any pre-RX7 ribcase. The REPUs also used a 33lb flywheel with a 9-bolt clutch, rather than the 30lb. 6-bolt clutch flywheel used on the old RX4 4-port motors.
I'm going over to my friend's house today, and he has 3 REPUs, I'll take a look at the engine mounts and see what the deal is.

I've got a '79-'80 tranny in mine. It's a great daily driver tranny because the gear ratios are close together. They all seem to drop the RPM about the same amount. A ribcase has 1st and 2nd closer together, and 3rd is really far. I guess it makes towing easier. I had trouble towing up a hill in 2nd gear, but 1st was great. If 2nd was a little closer to 1st, like a ribcase, I would have had no problems. Something to think about. I'm also getting a ribcase soon.
