how rare are 1976 mazda cosmos?
i have the opportunity to buy a rust free clean 1976 cosmo less an engine for 500 bucks, the interior is incredible for its age,
i currently have the car in my sig, but a cosmo would be so much sweeter
basically what im wanting to know
are parts still available for these cars, new or used. am i crazy for wanting to rock an old school rx-5? nad last but not least how much do they weigh compared to a first gen
oh one last thing
would a 1st gen 13b and tranny bolt in?

I had a race prepped RX-5 and selling it is my one great regret... Parts can be found but sometimes entire parts cars are cheaper... They are a little more common in the Pacific Northwest than on the east coast it seems, so you shouldn't have a hard time there... As far as the engine goes, the 4-port mounts are different than the 6-port mounts, so your best bet is to find a 13B 4-port and throw it in there with a similar setup to what you have in the FB...
Oh and trust me... Throw some Epsilons and good suspension on that ****** like I did and it'll be a sexy *** car...

It can be done, but why would you want a 6-port instead of a 4-port? 4-port 13B's are awesome, and if you get a '74 engine, they have the largest stock ports...

Driveshaft will have to be custom... You could use trannies from a GSL-SE, REPU, TII, N/A FC, B2000/B2200, etc... I would recommend a REPU tranny due to the strength and shorter gearing...

take the car that's a great deal...
If i were you i would keep the rx7 unless its rusted out and not worth fixing.
find a motor and trani for the cosmo and have two cars.
the cosmo will not handle like the 7 it is heavier by 5 or 6 hundred lbs i believe
doesn't the 1st gen rx7's have a front cover engine mounts on them already?
been so long i cant remember where the mounts are on the old 7's...
as for fitting the rx7 trani into the cosmo its just a matter of getting the
shifter to line up i think.
my cosmo:

its more a lux kind of car if i want power and handling i drive:

Take it....if just for the, "what the hell is it?" factor.
