How to move shifter position forward?

Hey, Im doing a custom project and I ran into a bit of a snag... the position of my shifter is too far back making it difficult to shift. I need to move it forward a few inches but I cannot move the engine forward anymore than it is right now. I am using a s4 TII tranny... any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks a bunch!

The good new is that it can be moved. The bad news is the only people I have seen do it are in Australia. If you search some of the Aussie sites you will be able to find a shop that will sell you the jig for 80 to 90 bucks.

Good Luck

i don't know if it's the same thing but i did that same mod to an '83 tranny so it would fit my rx3, moving the shifter forward approx. 4".

search the first gen forum for tII swap. It tells what you need to do to move it forward a bit. It involves swaping the rear section of the tranny, cutting the shifter rod and redrilling a hole. Don't know how far forward it will move it.

Take the back half of the tranny and take to any machine shop. There are four bolts on the shifter mount and they cut the mount then the back two bolts now mount where the front two bolts went before and cut and redrill the hole in the shift rod. The hard part is drilling the hole right(you need a jig). Cost me 50 bucks and fit right in my RX2. Good luck.

Jig? not really, a mill is what i used. with a slightly longer bolt, same thread with the head cut off, screw it into the hole, then put the shank of that bolt into a drill chuck and secure it in the vice. now u have the "clock" angle at which it needs to be drilled. loosen the chuck and raise it up, move the table 4", then redrill.

Ok, so you then bolt the shifter in place using the back holes of the shifter with bolts going into the front holes of the tranny.

Do you do anything to support the front of the shifter?
Does it move at all?
