Wouldn't be suprised if someone in Australia shoots him a 50K+ offer, I think 40K overthere would get 1 R100

there's been a bit of discussion about these cars on the ausrotary forum.

general consensus is that left hookers are too difficult (expensive) to import, swap over to rhd and generally get certified for road rego here.

i reckon they'll go to Peurto Rico.

while we're dreaming, look at this fine little r1 resto currently for sale, $42k:

1969 MAZDA R100 M10A Coupe Private Cars For Sale in QLD - carsales.com.au

hope link works, otherwise go to carsales dot com dot au and search for r100.

You sure? I know he had more cars than what he showed on his website but from what I had understood, because of financial reasons he had to get rid of the collection. I think these were the three that David sold around late December. Or was Denizard the one that bought them from David and now he's selling them?

So one can't buy a classic USDM spec car and drive it as is in Aus?

^^yes they can, anything older than 25y doesnt need the rhd conversion.

I think the lhd detracts from the apeal a bit cos its a car that was actually available in rhd.

yup, agree. a lhd '66 mustang? value in Aus is probably improved.

there's some horror stories here about personal vehicle importers getting run through the ringer by rego inspectors. rotaries are generally not well liked by the bureaucrats anyway and add lhd to the mix won't make it any easier.

I like how he claims the red on is one of the best in the USA.. He hasn't been out too much i guess lol I personally seen 2 in our garage in way better shape and all original.

Anyone find it odd that he went from 25k -35k in a couple bids? i think he is having some ppl bid on it to raise price.

Im guessing the first few bids were just feelers to find the reserve price, which looks like it must have been 40k

It will be interesting to see what they end up selling for... This is the rarest of the rare... I see fewer of these around than any other old Mazda....
I hope they find a good home

These cars were indeed recently sold by my buddy Dave out in Texas. He has a VERY large collection of old school mazdas, literature, FSM, specialty tools and such.

Do you mind disclosing what he sold them for?? My friend knows the guy that has them now, and had given him a buy now price which is less than current bid.

would be easy to spend that on a quality resto/build and end up with only car.

difference is that most enthusiasts spend their money incrementally over many years.

it's that age old journey/destination discussion. building a car yourself is about the hours spent hunting for rusty parts and waiting for them to come back from re-chroming. whoever bought these cars just teleported directly to their destination.

can't guarantee this words but;

I heard he was having people bid on it for them to raise the price. Wanted someone to "see" how much they would go for on eBay before selling... and if bought they headed to the island.

Either way those are some awesome looking vehicles. Lottery winnings? I think I know where I would have spent it.
