Question Front Cover Swap

Okay,

I am in the middle of a turbo conversion and need a little help.

I have an 88 Turbo II motor that I am swapping the front cover on. (85 GSL SE front cover to put into my RX 2 )

I need to tap that front cover for the oil return from the turbo right? and so, was wondering how you guys did the whole job.

E.G. where to tap?

Do I use a specific fitting? Or is there a special piece that people are using?

How do I get the piece to stay in place? JB Weld? Thread the cover? Weld?

any help is greatly appreciated.

There is a wealth of knowledge here, about this very topic. I have run into a bunch of people who have been nothing but helpful. Just ask and I am sure you will get all the answers you are looking for

If I ever can help I definetly will. (Right now I am just learning myself )

Here something that might give you a hand Nutty RX3, http://members.iinet.net.au/~bradr/. Its has some good info on that very swap you are going to try to your rx3. The site takes you over how he did his set up for a 13bt swap in to a rx3..

I my self am still learning just like you guys. Jesuscookies, I would not mind seeing your rx2. If you have time to post pics. I would really like to get a pic of your motor area to have a look at next ot mine. So I can get an idea what I am missing tell I can get a mazda book for my rx2. I am only going to start with a stock 13b and run a weber 48 sidedraft my self. tell I got money...

Best of luck guys..

Kick,

I have a picture or two of the engine bay, but it is completely cleaned out, and awaiting the engine. I am at the very begining of this conversion and so, am quite a bit away from a finished product.

I have the engine, the car (2 of em ) and the turbo kit is on order. As soon as I get things rolling. I will be posting pictures. I need a better camera though.

Thanks for that website it had some very useful information.

I used a (GSL-SE) front cover on my conversion. I drilled in to it on the center of the raised boss thats visable from inside of the cover. I tapped it and used a fitting from pipe thread to an A.N. fitting. I also cut the return line from turbo and welded an A.N. fitting on it. also I ran into a gasket problem and had to cut a bigger hole around the o-ring for the cover.

THANKS KEN!! I think I am on the same path here. I am using the GSL SE cover as well. Right on this cover, directly under where the oil metering pump goes, is a quarter size indentation. This is the same place where the turbo feed is on the original 88 cover. This is where I was going to put the AN thread fitting. However, I do not know what kind of a line I am going to get with the turbo kit I ordered. So, I will have to wait, or call em, and see what type of a line he is going to supply with the kit. Then I will know what size/kind of AN fittings to get.

I think this is the best spot to put the return. What do you think?
