This is RX8 specific, but I feel more comfortable posting on rx7club concerning my situation.

My RX8 has been in hibernation outdoors for 3 months during the winter. Before it was put into hibernation, all fluids have been filled to the top, intake and exhaust hole stuffed with steel wool to prevent rodents from entering, and left with 1/8 tank of 93 with my regular 8oz of premix solution when it was full. The battery has also been removed, suspension and brakes wrapped in plastic (in case water goes in under the cover), summer wheels removed, and the car placed on stands.

I plan on firing it up this weekend. I will be putting in 5 gallons of 93 octane mixed with 2oz of premix into the tank via a gas canister along with the battery charged. Along with the obvious, removing the steel wool from the intake tube and exhaust. Is there any thing else I should be prepping before starting it up?

 

using the above, spray some oil via spark plug hole and hand crank the motor at the pulley for a minute or so to lubricate the seals. do this for both front and rear rotors.

crank the engine with spark plug wires unplugged until the oil pressure starts creeping up.

the above will ensure that the motor is properly lubricated. lastly, replace the spark plugs, re-install the spark plug wires and then start away.

 

Due to the lack of space in my stock RX8, I would have to spend quite some time to remove the intake box and battery assembly to gain access to the pulley. Would it be adequate to just spray oil into the spark plug holes, replace the spark plugs, and fire it up?

 

skip the hand cranking but be sure to do second step

remove plugs, remove fuse. blip starter to spin motor without fear of flooding or motor starting.

 

Exactly. You can also remove the oil filter and pour oil down both holes so it'll lube all bearings and back fill the oil lines. Pour some in the oil filter too then put it all back together.

 

The car is fine. Just charge the battery and start the car.
My POS 87 TII sat 4.5 months after I gave up on it in November (plugs kaput, ignition coil crapped out). I put a "new" coil and fresh plugs last weekend. Car started up in 5 seconds of cranking. Idled fine.

 

I couldn't find a spraying device anywhere (including Harbor Freight) that would fit the spark plug hole. I took a 5mL non-latex syringe, attached a hose to it, blended some premix and 20w50 in a shot glass, and squirted some into the holes.
