Datsun 510 Project - Rotary power soon

Well,

Its home, here are the pics. I am probably going to be setting up a website to document its transformation. She's not pretty but I am just going to race it, and its performance over cosmetics.

Notice the big tach. Oil pressure, and water temp. CDplayer in the glove box

Large Radiator and oil cooler, dual electric fans, all new wiring.

Just need some money to find a 13b and start building it. We are doing a streetport with carbed setup and will build the engine for turbo power later if I get more cash.

Wish me luck!

Neil

nice. i've done a rotary conversion. you will need to cut the cross member, flip it around and re-weld it. this is to clear the oil pan. but again, i've seen other jobs wherein they used an rx-4 front engine mount/cross member but the engine would sit a little too high imho. there are tons of parts for a 510. we've picked up most of our suspension parts from TMC in los angeles.

my buddy is running a 13-b streetport with ida. he is running a single exhaust and ran straight to that 3" hole near the rear-end, and from there it split up to a deal exhaust. however, based on the design, it was very difficult to remove or install the driveshaft/rear-end.

good luck to you.

This car previoiusly had a 12a rotary in it. how much different should the 13b be as far as installation? Sorry, I am not a rotary guru. Actually this is my first rotary try. I have a couple good rotary guys helping me, but I hope that the 13b will not be alot of trouble since its already been modified for the 12a previously in it.

Seems like if it was already set up to run a 12A, it would be the same as putting a 13B in a 1st gen. RX7. I'd look for a GSL-SE motor as it will already have the right oilpan and front cover.

I really like the birdhouse mounted on the passenger side...

Heh!

I went from a 12A to a 13B in my MG Midget. It came with a dead 12A. All I did was swap trannies (going from '73 to '74 and later style; which you won't need to worry about), and move the tranny mount back by 20mm. The exhaust flange also needed some attention. Real easy. You'll love it when it's done!

Oh yeah, the driveshaft also needed shortening due to the tranny swap (40mm), and the engine swap (20mm for 60mm grand total). If you simply move the front engine mounts forward and keep the tranny as is, then you won't even need to shorten your driveshaft.

im in the process of doing a 510 rotary swap im going with a 13bt im using a gsl-se front plate to mount it to the cross member using a custom mount and probably going to make a custom oil pan or ive heard the the rx-4 oilpan will work but doing it this way puts it low and far back and requires modification to the tranny tunnel, im just cutting the whole thing out.

That bring back good times for me.
If I had the place to stuff them, I would own 4 2drs nd 2 4dr 510s. I could have picked up 5 510s for 250 this time last year. Just didnt have the place to stuff them at the time.
