Smile Cosmo Sport 110S, 10A

Hello Rotaryfans ;-)

I know this is not questions you get every day ! but, I am very close to buying a very nice Cosmo Sport 110S, 10A, 1969. It is overall in very good condition, but there is some problems with the car running proberly :-( the car has been at a Rotary specialist for many month to get this sorted, a week ago it came back to the owner, that of course believed the car now was as good as ever, but after she (yes the owner is a woman ;-) ) took it for a good testdrive, she is not happy with the result ! here is her experience:

For your information the car is running smoothly and starts without
problem. Up to about 4000 rpm she feels fine, but then power drops off
so in 4th with my foot almost on the floor she is only doing 80 kph!!
Also as soon as you put the engine under pressure, clouds of white smoke
out the exhaust!

The compression test results given to me by Rotechniks are:

Hot compression test results @ 250 rpm
Front rotor 5.9, 5.4, 5.8
Rear rotor 5.2, 5.0, 5.1

So, do any of you guys have any thoughts about this ? what about the compression figures, does they seams ok for such a motor do you think ? I am really looking forward to hear of any thoughts, as I really really would like to help the owner sort things out, so I can bring her to my place soon ;-)

Compression looks low all around. We don't deal much in 10a's or cosmos, hence the other fellows suggestion. 10a's are considered extremely fragile and wear quickly. If I were to own one I would definitely be putting a 13b in it. They're just not great to drive with the 10a, from what I understand.

Rene... had the same problem a few month ago, and someone replied to me as shown below... Hope this helps you get registered

"The question was a fill in the blank response and the correct answer has to do with Japanese culture. The correct answer for ?chiro would have been Ichero; as in Suzuki Ichero, the famous Japanese baseball player. Also a popular boys name in Japan".

i would be looking at consumption levels, if it is eating coolant or oil at higher than normal rates to see if the problem is internal in the engine besides compression.

Just last night I was standing over a Cosmo 110s in a collection here in Calgary (who would have thought!) - I would not hesitate over a running Cosmo regardless of the engine condition. 10a parts are not as difficult to get hold of as you think. Remember Australia and NZ did not get the series 1 RX3 in a 12a only a 10a which was commonly swapped out and therefore there are lots of guys on the Ausrotary forum that would know where to find what you are chasing.
