The 88-91 929s were available with 13B Turbo engines that were sold in Japan.

Wrong. The 929 is RWD. The Mellenia and '83-on 626s are the FWD ones. A rotary in a 929 is a cool idea...I'd like to do it too. The 929 and Cosmo shared their platforms. I would use the '87-'92 (I think) boxy type of 929. I think the manual-trans 929-S used the TurboII gearbox, but you need to research that yourself.

there are number of cosmos that were avalible. which one you are talking about??? (i think HB)

the original COSMO SPORT

from memory these were 10As

then came COSMO AP (aka RX-5)

these were with 13Bs and based on 121 coupe (was a car of the year in japan)

then was a HB

i think only 13BT but could have 12A as well

and finally the famed JC COSMO

13B-REW(i think) and 20B-REW

the four door rotary 929s were Luces, although i could be wrong

not showing off, just letting you know

good on ya that you want to do something like that, i myself restoring a 121(rx5 shape) which gonna get JE-ZE out of later 929, and maybe twin hairdryiers

Cosmo HB was 12A, and 12A turbo. The 12AT made the Cosmo HB the fastest production sedan in Japan.
The same engine was also used in the RX7 Turbo, that was JDM only.

I think its 13b-re not 13b-rew.
I belive that the 13b-re were in the JC COSMO.
As for the 13b-rew, I belive those were just in the 93-95 Rx7.

But I'm not 100% sure their. Does anyone know if I'm right or way off?

I'm not sure about the cars you got in the USA, but wasn't the Cosmo JC a pure rotary car? So what would you convert then? Like I said: I'm not sure. But I never heared of piston-engined cosmo's (called whatever)?

As for importing a JC to the USA, I think you might better forget about that. The question comes up from time to time, and even if I don't live in the USA, I learned a few things by now. Those things include crash tests etc. Kinda expensive...

To get the car here and into your garage, something like 15k.

Multiply that by 5 if you want to drive it (legally anyways).

Mazda Cosmo (HB)

The Mazda HB line-up was very diverse and was offered with 12A, 12A turbo and 13B rotary engines.

In Japan the HB was offered through two different sales channels, as (i) "Luce" (the traditional Japanese name for the "large" Mazda model, i.e. 1500/1800 and 929 in export), and (ii) "Cosmo".

The following body-styles can be identified having been offered with a rotary engine (one or more of the above):

Luce: 4 door Saloon, and 4 door Hardtop with normal headlights.

Cosmo: 4 door Saloon, 2 door Hardtop with window in B-pillar and pop-up headlights, 2 door Hardtop without window in B-pillar but with pop-up headlights, 2 door Hardtop without window in B-pillar and normal headlights, 4 door Hardtop with pop-up headlights, and 4 door Hardtop with normal headlights.

BR, Bo
