1976 Cosmo RX-5 front shocks

A friend just got his Cosmo back and the road and the front shocks didn't like sitting all those years. Dose anyone know where you can get replacements?

Thanks,

Years ago I had to replace the front struts and could not find anything and that included inserts. I talked with a large auto supply in the East ( New York, I think) and a very helpful salesman researched the size and stroke etc of the car and tried to find something that was real close. He found an insert that was very workable except that about a half an inch of the shaft had to be machined slightly to fit the upper mount which was very easy and they worked great for years until I sold the car. I am pretty sure that it was from a Camry. I don't remember the name of the company unfortunately, but maybe you can find someone who will do a similar search and get you what you need. With these cars, you often need to be creative when it comes to replacement parts.
Good Luck

I stopped by to see my friend and grabbed some current pictures of his car. He greased the ball joints and felt that was the problem. I think the shocks are blown. He drove it to Lime Rock and said it handled great. It's too bad there are not ready replacements available since it is a nice car.

My friend is battling cancer so getting the Cosmo back on the road has been a good diversion for him. He has been winning car shows around the area with it so that has brought some joy into his life.

Hi Tim, sorry to here your friend has cancer. Watch the video in my sig it may help him. Just another option I know has worked for many others. I'll say a prayer for him.

Sad End

My friend took his Cosmo to Lime Rock a few weeks ago. On the way home, he had a mishap that ended his dream. The car has been totaled. He was going to keep it and try to find another car to rebuild one,,but the insurance company wants $1,800 so he is letting it go. He has slowed down a lot and really can't handle such a project right now. This car is too good to crush. The interior is in great shape. A real bummer for him as it was a bright star.

Frame is toast. Estimated $25K to fix.

The Cosmo was hauled away on Tuesday going to Granby, CT I believe. The engine has 2,000 miles on it but it did look like one of the mounts was broken so it is unknown. It is no longer a roller.

My friend passed away in November so the end has truly come to this story. I know there are a set of seats (front and rear), a front grill with very minor bubbling and those four wheels, rings and tires in the basement. His widow needs time to sort out her life but at some point I'm suggesting that they post them on this site. Shipping will likely be an issue when that happens.

Just before the Cosmo was hauled away, my friend told me to take the Cosmo badge off the right front fender. It seemed fitting to place that badge in his casket at his funeral

As I sad in his eulogy, Rest in Peace would have sounded like Hell to my friend and I preferred to just say Give 'em Hell.

Wheels and seats

Is there any interest in the wheels, trim rings, center caps with Vrederstien 195/65-14 tires with around 2k on them and front and rear seats as shown? The items are in MA and I would have to work with my friend's widow to get them shipped. The seats do have some blemishes but are in overall good shape. Even the rear seat back is not sun burned. I have a few more pictures. PM me if you are interested. There is also a damaged front grill and right side headlight trim.
