13B-T on an e30 325i
Hey guys, what's up?
Haven't posted here in a while but with recent ideas and opportunities I've started considering a new project. In a nutshell, I want to put a 13B-T my friend has on my e30 325i. I am not one with a huge budget so bare with me as I am still researching to see how feasible this is.
To begin let's start with the budget. I can sell my car for $4-4.5k and buy an e30 rolling shell for less than $1k. The engine and tranny would cost about the same. So that's $2k out of $4k, assuming I would be selling my car for the cheapest possible ( wouldnt sell it for any less ) and paying the most I'd consider on an e30 with a blown motor or any other non-cosmetic issue that will be replaced.
As for work, I am mechanically inclined and I always did maintenance on my car, from brake jobs to hoses to helping out on a tranny swap ( not watching, I was there under the car personally wrenching ). I would have some other friends help me out and one of them already talked about letting me use his father's shop on weekends when they are closed. They are close by so towing the car in and out wouldn't be too much of a hassle.
As for my friends, I have one guy who is an FC nut.... he's probably in this forum... his father is also a rotary mechanic and I'm sure he could share his knowledge in anything needed. I personally know some from rotaries, I was once on the market for one and came here and posted, read FAQs, etc... the guy who is letting me use the shop has already swapped in an SR20DET himself in his 240sx, so I have some good help with me.
We already had some talk over this plan and we came to certain conclusions, like the need for driveshaft work, motor mounts, tranny mounts, a standalone ECU for the engine, a computer for the stand alone ( which my father works with computers so he can hook me up on that ), as well as replace the clutch components like the master cylinder, slave cylinder, etc.....
I might be skipping some.... I need to start putting it all down on a piece on a planning sheet to make this more concrete. I am completely open to constructive criticism.... I know I'm not on a huge budget, but again, this is a research phase to see how feasible this is. The main point is that there will be no labor.
Anyone in Miami or Ft.Laurerdale that wants to help out, it'll surely be appreciated.
Thanks guys,
Erick

what's the final gear ratio on the e30 325i?, you'll wanna know this or you could end up with really tall gears or really short ones if your using the TII tranny, it's already built for acceleration having shorter gear ratios then the N/A RX-7

I would be using a TII tranny. As for the differential ratios that would most likely be a 3.73:1 differential.
The one I currently have ( 325i ) is a 3.73, however M3s had 4.10s, 325e's had 2.93s, so on and so forth, so I can always look for a spare differential to make up for an ideal acceleration.

well i'm pretty sure teh TII's came with a 4.10 final gear.. hmm 3.73:1.. i'd like to get my hand on that kinda gearing for a diff , using a 3.909 right now but with the 205/40/ZR16's it matches it pretty much right back to stock (finally one of those stupid things that tell you how fast your going came in usefull)
