Standalone management system for a 13B-T

Hey guys, what's up? I'm looking to put in a 13B-T in my car. I'm currently researching to see how feasible this is.

So far I've discussed this with a couple of friends, and we agreed that we can't run or mix the BMW's ECU with the 13B's, which would call for a standalone management system for the engine.

I was wondering if you guys could give me some input on what to use, best bang for the buck, cheapest even though quality is compromised, etc. I want to know my options here.

I would also really appreciate if some of you guys would take the time to check my topic on the "Other Rotaries" forum by clicking on the link in my sig. Any extra info I can get on this swap would be greatly appreciated.

Edit: Also, some of you that might want to spare some time and knowledge over a conversation in AIM, my screenname is rwdrift. It'd be awsome to have a good live chat.

Thanks,
Erick

I think you should use whatever EMS your local rotary shop thinks is good, and is willing to help you with any problems you may have. There is no point in getting an EMS, only to find out that nobody in your area knows how to use it. They all do pretty much the same thing, and I don't know of any that are bad.

Sounds good... I'll ask around to see how that'll work out.

Haltech.... I'll have to reseach some about it. Any quick info on whether it's good, how much it costs, etc?

In my area there is a Microtech rotary engine tuner, a Wolf rotary engine tuner, and a Wolf/Microtech rotary engine tuner. If you have a Haltech in my area, you have these choices, none of which are optimal in my opinion:
1) Go to the Honda or Supra guys for tuning.
2) Be the guinea pig and pay one of the other EMS rotary tuners to experiment on your car with the Haltech.
3) Drive an hour to the closest city with Haltech rotary engine tuning.

Another point is that there may be a rotary engine tuner for one type of EMS in your area, but you may not like him or his business for some reason, and prefer to go to a different tuner. Tuners also get backed-up sometimes, and you may want to use a different tuner if time is a factor.

Haltech is a brand, not a model. Yes, the brand is good (as long as you don't have a 20B engine, lol). The E6X is about $1,200-1,400 and the E11 is about $1,700-1,850. Like many of the EMS products, Haltechs are made in Australia, and therefore prices vary with the exchange rate.

Danito Auto Repair here in Orlando
did a 13B swap into a BMW just like yours

ran 11's on lots of Spray

In Miami
you have a LOT of tuners and fabricators that can do swaps and tune

for Haltech and a engine swap
try Crispeed who's shop is right around South FLorida Performance's SHop
Or Rosado racing

for MicroTech WWR Racing comes to mind

Well, I want to do the work myself in case you havent checked my other topic linked above. I have an access to a shop and a lot of mechanically inclined friends..... I've dont tranny swaps... and some friends have done SR20 swaps..... and some are just rotary fans.

However this engine management system is just something we know we need, but something that we dont know much about. It'd probably be the hardest task in the project

Thanks,
Erick
