13B/Renesis in 1986 Skyline R31
Hello everybody! I know that there were many topics about the rotary swap in S13 platform, but I would like to hear your opinion about my situation.
I have R31 Nissan Skyline, CA18S, MT.
At first I began to build CA18ET with it, but I realized that I can get about 200 hp from it quite possible for little money, but after that it’s pointless.
There aren't CA18DET engines in my country, neither RB20DET and it'll be too expensive to buy it in the UAE, Russia or Japan. I can swap here RB25DET or SR20DET, but, firstly, these engines are too expensive, and secondly, it is too mainstream.
Eventually i wanted something unusual, smth with the slogan "Fun to drive", u know
There is almost no RX7 in my country, but a lot of RX8, so I can't find an 13B-REW from RX-7. However, after reading the forums, I saw that many people hate the Renesis engine. So, why is it so bad? I think I can buy here a 6-port Renesis engine.
What problems await me, in addition to altering the subframe, custom drive shaft and everything that can be expected during the swap, for example, on RB25DET?
Generally. Is it worth it? Or can you suggest anything else? I was thinking about VQ engines, but there are a lot of problems with wiring, and MT is very expensive. Another option - 3S-GE Beams from Altezza - cheap, lightweight, tuneable.
Sorry for my bad English in some fragments

So here in Australia, r31 with the ca engines are pintara’s, only the rb30 were in our r31 skylines, so I’d check the brakes and suspension before going too nuts with any conversion, the pintara’s here had different brakes and suspension compared to the skyline.
im no expert on the renisis engine, but basically they are dues for a rebuild at around 60k miles (100k kilometres) unless very well looked after.
they are also not real powerful from stock, around 150hp at the wheels i think.
different? Well yes, but for the whole conversion it wouldn’t be cheap by any means, not for the power you would get, although the handling would be great!!
id look into getting an Rb20 or 25 Imported, will basically bolt upto your mounts as the CA engine is basically an RB with 2 less cylinders, (from what ive read anyways)
the power from these engines stock is great and a lot more can be had for little $$
if your totally keen on the rotor, find a complete crashed car so you get everything!!

a stock 13b Renesis will put down ~180 hp to the wheels. I've done back to back dyno testing with both a 2004 Rx8 and a 2009. Both put down exactly the same power. That said. The Renesis will likely be disappointing to put in a heavy car like the R31, as the torque just isn't there. If you really wanted to have something fun and rotary powered, I'd recommend a T2 13b (1988-1991). Not only are these engines turbocharged, they're reliable when taken care of and can make up to 400 whp with the right supporting modifications. I understand finding these parts can be difficult where you're located, but I'd look online.
As krem stated, finding a full half cut car would be beneficial in your case since you're doing a custom swap.

you can make 500hp with stock port t2, renesis would.indeed be lacking tq.. but they can last much longer than expected. most of them i have taken apart have too big side seal tolerances and thus low compression
