12A into AE86, anyone here done it?

Hey so I have this junky base model 84 but the engine is rebuilt. Now findint a GSL shell to drop it into is tough going so I was considering getting an engineless AE86.

Looks like a couple of people have put in 13Bs and 12As before and was wondering if someone here has done that and could give me some info.

I figure the 12A will be enough, it'll be basically the same power as the 4ag and will probably benefit better from opening up the exhaust also.

Well don't ask Matt22 cause he'll tell you its a honda but checkout BUMBLEBEE7 he put a turbo 13b into one search for 'Mazota' in the other rotary section

(i wouldn't know how to post a link for you sorry)

and go the 13b. 12a has the same power but less torque, get a turbo in there for fun!

I'd go 13b if I had one laying around which I don't, all I have is a 12a with 6K miles in a junky base model FB shell.

The only 13b I have is currently occupying my daily driver FC.

go for it man, an ae86 with a 12A= fun day lol. ive been thinkin doing a 13bt swap on a starlet but an ae86 with a 12a would be more fun in my opinion, if youre gonna do the swap be sure to do a good street port and bridegeport to your 12A lol.

good luck

Nah its already rebuilt, it'd just be a fun daily driver. The 12A puts out more power than a 4ac so it should be fine, 86s are about as light as non-SE FBs anywho.

The corolla conversion will take sometime as Im still gathering all the parts to complete the swap. Besides, its hard to have 2 project cars pending plus my RX-3 will be coming out from the body shop next month.

Maybe if you are just going to do a hack job.
Have to built motor mounts., tranny mount, shorten a tranny tailshaft, new driveshaft., work trans tunnel, set pinion angle just a few of the problems you have to work through.

I have seen a video of a 20B in a AE86 so I think a 12a would work fine.

Haha I read your thread BUMBLEBEE7 and the sheer ignorance of some people never ceases to amaze me! And to act so arrogant and smug about it!

Congrats on the built, it looks very clean! And kudos to the thread starter on doing a rotary swap into a piston pooper!
