wow i got fuxored
well i was goin through what my options are, well basically what i can afford and have the time to do, and i'm most likely gonna go with a rebuild. but i'm gonna fix a lot of probs that i previously had with my car. while the motor is out, i'm going to rebuild my turbo, make it non-sequential, and port the WG's. also change up the lines for some silicones, and probably overall just reseal things better. i've looked around and seen some attractive cermaic coating jobs done for rebuilds. anyone have a rough estimate of what this will cost? also i wondering if i can do the rebuild myself, mostly because of time since i go to school and i work. if anyone would like to help that'd be great. btw, thxs for all the replies you guys.
seems like thats a problem with everyones 7s... my car is also not running. but anyways han i agree you should get a rebuild man. shouldnt give up something you worked and Saved so hard for you know man? i remember the story. anyways plus by this summer ill be rolling an FD to so. If you get it running by then we can go Crusin!
ouch, i was lucky enough to be infront of a friends house when my motor decided to die on me. yea, i'm gonna go with a rebuild, anyone wanna help me with the rebuild? i'd cough up something for the help. also, anyone know how to rebuild turbos?
Sorry to hear. A couple comments.
1. I heard that the stock turbo's are not rebuildable. I might be wrong on this though.
2. How much downtime can you afford? You are going to want to pull your motor, disassemble the motor, check tolerances, buy parts as needed, and then rebuild. I suspect that you have about 3-4 days of hard work and then time waiting for the parts.
The motor is fairly simple to construct, I would reccomend the 13-re video or whatever that one was called. It has a step by step and goes very in depth.

Ditto, Dave. I have purchased and sold a set for $100 in the past. I know bosscobra has a set of turbos he would probably sell.
BNR does not rebuild your turbos. They are remanufactured. They replace your cartridges and build you a better, more efficient turbo. Problem is the set is like $2,300. But well worth it if you want 400hp on "stock" twins. And they can be run sequential with a peak of about 375whp or non-sequential reach upwards of 400hp.
Just depends on your budget for this build. But I'd locate a set of stock turbos and yes they CAN be rebuilt depending on their condition. The housings should be your main area of ceoncern. Look for cracks in the flanges and make sure they are non-existent or minimal. Otherwise you'll have exhaust leaks or tired turbos for sure

well time wise its not much of a problem as i have another car to drive, i'd like to get the car put back together by summer at the latest. What i think i'll do is source all the parts for the car as quickly as possible, and try to do the work over spring break. well i'm gonna be eatin top ramen for the next 6 years i think as the amount of things to replace/do goes higher and higher.....
btw, i would love to have BNR's stage 3's but i don't have that kinda money to use just on the turbo's alone. so i'll probably try and source a non-sequential stocker somewhere and just port the WGs on that.

oh by the way since your car is not running call your insurance company right away and garage your car. It saved me like $150 a month. If you have a loan through a bank you might have to have a waiver through them.
oh shizz i haven't seen u in awhile ron, i thought u gave up on the spinnin triangles since your with that AP2 now, haha. yea man i totally killed an o-ring and sent an apex seal flying. yea, u doin anythin over spring break, cuz i really need to do this ish as soon as possible.....i'm probably gonna pick up the rebuild kit from atkins this friday or on monday....

well to all of you that i know, my rotary days may be limited, on the great day of saturday, at 79k miles on the body and motor(original in both cases)......my FD decided to throw an apex seal after a small "cough." as of now, my FD is dead in the water infront of my friends house and is waiting to be towed. i have no idea exactly what i'm going to do, but thoughts of rebuilds, V8 swap, and just selling the car are going through my head....help me decide what to do
