Will it live again?
Will it live again?
Well as some of you know I have been without a running 7 for a while now. Clutch went **** up, and while the motor was going to be out I decided it would be a good idea to go ahead and reseal the oil pan, resurface the flywheel, and retorque the dowel pins. I finally have the tools needed to do that (flywheel stopper, 54mm impact socket, engine stand adapter, and some other odds and ends). So hopefully (fingers crossed) I should have my 7 running again on Monday in time to make it to Izzys. Wish me luck!
well today I got it on the engine stand, started to clean things up, removed the flywheel, resurfaced it, retorqued the dowel pins (and they needed it!), did the ghetto check for compression (6 puffs on three rotations, although compression sounded like it may be a tad low on the front rotor). Hopefully I can borrow a steam cleaner or a pressure washer to make the sucker shine! According to the rotary avaition rebuild video my engine is looking how it should, the distributer shaft was clean & no grime, the rotor housings were visibly clean upon removing the oil pan, and it got 6 clear puffs with 3 rotations of the eccentric shaft. So I am pretty happy to see and hear that my engine is in good shape. Tommorrow I will hopefully be able to borrow a pressure washer and after I clean the exterior of the engine I am going to reseal the oil pan, and install the new clutch! Then on Monday I will make some magic and get it installed back into its home! That is the plan...
Yeah, it is tomorrow and the guy who's shop my car is at is not home! I need him home so he can move his honda out of the way so I can push the 7 in and put the engine in. Looks like it will not be happening today. It is all ready though. I resealed the oil pan, cleaned up the engine some more, and installed the new clutch kit. As soon as I am able to get use of the shop I am hoping it should be running again within 2 hours. So it seems as if it will live again, just not this week. Damn! I should still be at Izzys tonight, but I am going to Fry's in Portland with my bro to return some stuff. Hope to see the gang again.

Well, I got the engine sitting in the engine bay today! I now just need to get it lined up with the trans, and then start bolting everything back down! It "should" be done on Monday because I have the day off, so does my bro, and a couple of my friends also. I don't think I will need that many hands helping but the more the merrier! Well heres to driving a 7 to the next Izzy's meet!
Should have came and seen me, im 15 minutes from frys. Lol.
You dint re-torque the tension bolts...... right?? Because the rubber cored washers used are very fragile and theres no reason or need too. Chances are if any bolt moved durring this, this delicate seal would break.

Wish I would have heard about this before when I originally posted about re-torqueing. I was just following advice from kettleman. Well to answer the question I was able to get some movement from each of the bolts... Not a lot though. I guess time will tell if I did something bad, how expensive are those washers anyhow? can they be substituted with similar washers or with copper crush washers maybe? Just asking so I will know what to replace with if it somes to having to take the engine out again. Let me know what bad could happen from what I did though. Thanks.
Well, last weekend I got the engine in, but there is a hole in my radiator, so I need to patch it, or use the other one I hav if I can find it. The all I got to do is put the fan clutch back on, mount the radiator, connect coolant hoses and throttle cable, fill fluids, and try and start her up! SO it looks as if it will be running and driving this weekend! YES!
Its' alive! It's alive! I got it buttoned back up today and after giving the battery a charge it started right up! the new clutch is great, and the pedal feel is better than I could have hoped for (may have something to do with the new SS lines). Now I just need to get the gas pedal feel right! Getting my throttle linkage setup how I would like may turn out to be a little tricky. Hey kettleman, how did you do your throttle linkage for your Holley setup? Could you send me some pics? Next thing to do is put on my new fender, new guage cluster, new switches, new door panels, and prep it to be painted... Flat black!
Finally got to take it on a real drive! It is running so smooth right now! I love it! It was sitting at the guys house were I was working on it (gas was empty when I towed it in and only had enough in it to get it started for a alittle while, then died). So I got some gas in it and finally was able to actually take it for a spin. I missed her so badly. Unfortunately I don't think I will be able to keep her for to long with how gas prices are, my money situation because of work, and the fact that I have another baby on the way. SO as it is right now I will probably be selling her in the near future.
