How many does it take to get it to be voted out?

Infinite. No online petition will change a law. It might raise awareness of the desire to change it but thats it. Law makers are more likely just to listen to their law enforcement people then an online petition. This is all assuming that someone can actually make a big enough stink to have it even be considered.

Actually, legislators are most likely to listen to folks they know. If you know your legislator then they are more apt to listen to you. If you also gave money to that legislator's campaign, then they are even more likely to listen to you. If you got three friends to donate to that campaign, even better. If you volunteered for their campaign as well, doorbelling, phone calls, yard signs etc... then you can pretty much call them up at any time and be given the chance to make your case.

A bunch of names on a petition won't do squat. The only exception is if you want to file a citizen's initiative. For the cost of a filing fee, you can then gather enough petitions to put the initiative on the ballet (at least in WA state). Then the entire state has the option of voting for it. Unfortunately, an initiative would never pass because there aren't enough folks that are bothered by front plates to vote for it.

i'm pretty sure you need 100,000 signatures to get it on the ballet that's why it will never happen. Every year there is a push but it comes too late. in 2006 i think VW vortex orginized a huge group to try and get things going. i tried to get other forums involved but noone gave a ****. i think the last count was 46,000 signatures, but with out funding this will never happen.

^ Well that's if you are trying to make it a ballot initiative. At this point all it really takes is the right person to care.

You're right. If there was a State Rep or Senator that had an interest, they could sponsor a bill and see if they could get it passed. The best option is to find a car enthusiast that is already in the House or Senate and start to work on them.
