Trans rebuild - good Seattle area shop?

My trans is starting to show its age...2nd gear grinds like mad when the tranny is hot. I just put in Neo synth 75-90 to try and quiet it down but it still grinds.

Other than Pineapple (which is a bit far away) is there a good Seattle area shop that anyone has used for a trans rebuild? I'm keeping my eye out for a good used unit, but if I can't find one I'll need to go the rebuild route.

Thanks!

Chris

Hey chris... i priced a trans rebuild a while back. My opinion is don't bother.... the cost of a rebuild on a tranny is astronomical compared to the ease of just sourcing a new one... And if you are mechanically inclined... swapping it out yourself. If you poke around a used tranny can be found for $50-$200 bucks... depending on the condition. Good luck!

When you buy used, you never know what you're going to get. Unless you know and trust the person you're buying it from. If possible, I'd get it rebuilt. CJ

I guess it just depends on you level of mechanical skill... I have a parts shed with several trannys that ive been given or found great deals on.. so when i trash one.. in goes the next! but for person who's never done this.. it can feel really intimidating! ive definitely been ther ein the past...

Fault... do you plan on self service or are you gonna pay a shop to handle it? If you need any help or info.. id be glad to do what i can.. just send me a PM....

Pineapple will put a newer Miata close ratio gear set into your tranny. Makes for a nice race tranny. Not cheap, but the results would be great.

Miata gear chart

I'd be very interested to see a Miata gear chart with all the ratios (like the one on Mazda Trix). My first race at Evergreen Speedway is in 2 weeks and I'm running the the 4.30 lsd rear and running the 1.366 3rd gear which will turn about
7500rpms at the end of the straightaways (no shifting), too many options out there when you look at the rx7 trannies. It would be money well spent to have Miata gear set if it will get me a little more.
