tranny swap...

I need help.. How do i get this to work..

I need to get a tranny in my car, but before i go buy more parts than i need to or things that i dont need at all i thought i would ask for help....

I need to get a tranny in my 83, but i have a S4 T2 motor in it. So i am getting a T2 tranny, but i need to get the shifter to be the right lenght..

So do i need a GSLSE tranny to put the rear tail section on the T2 tranny, or can i use a 12a? Can i just use a GSLSE tranny instead of the T2 or will that blow in a couple thousand miles? and will the starter for the T2 work on a SE tranny?

So if someone has done a swap like this before or just upgraded thier tranny and can help me figure this out i appreciate it!

You need a TII tranny if you expect to have above 200whp. As for shifter position? I have no idea.

PS I might have a S4 TII tranny.

It is going to take a little bit of love to get this done. Look at the shifter assembly, It is held to the transmission by 4 12mm bolts. What you need to do is shorten the assembly to where the rear bolts line up with the front holes. You willneed to shorten the connecting tube and the shift rod by the same amount. Redrill between the 12mm bolt holes to align the locating dowel pin.

Now for the most important step. Drill the spring pin hole on the shift rod AT THE SAME EXACT ANGLE. Otherwise the shift block wil not line up correctly and it may not shift correctly.

I just did this to my TII trans, too bad its installed right now. So its dificult to take pictures. But I think I explained it well enough.

If you want the shifter to line up perfectly then mess around with the front engine mount position to get it centered after cutting the shift tower. I am pretty sure I drilled my new locations 1.25 inches back from their original location. Mind you this was on an 83 GSL with a 12A subframe.

I hope this helps.

Might check with BLWFLY, he just did a TII trans for his REPU.
Heres a link to his thread.
