prolly cost you more from the insurance premium increase over the next 6 months then the actuall cost of the ticket itself, sounds bogus if you ask me unless you were riding someones ***

Go get a copy of the Citation from records and see what the actual charge was.
Then go try and fight it, best case they'll throw it out or subpoena the officer to
come, see if you can drag him out till he no shows, automatic ticket drop. This is
per my dad, the King County Sheriff

I say fight it. Those guys are ******** when they can take your money. Serve and Protect Right? Your best bet is to prove that the officer is not a reliable witness. However if you take it to court and loose you will at least double the fine.

It could be worse. I received a $100 abandoned vehicle ticket because of a flat tire. On top of that I was there when the officer wrote me the ticket.

I don't think the cop was stupid, obviously he did his job correctly in stopping you once he saw you swerve into a different lane. I don't think anyone in his position would have concluded that your alignment was off. However giving you such a small ticket was pointless in on its own and he should have just let you go. Even if you were following to close to a vehicle. Overall i don't think you have to worry about the ticket if you fight it, you have an advantage in court.

I "get" to go to court tomorrow morning to enter a not guilty plea for 90 in a 65 on I-5.

What are the words to use when I ask for a copy of the log of the radar gun? Motion for discovery? I want the correct words.

Back in the day... The radar guns had a limitation such that it would pick up the speed of the larger moving object and not the speed of a smaller moving vehicle next to it, even if the smaller moving vehicle was traveling at a different speed than the large vehicle. So if a vehicle (for example a three rotor 20b Ugo) traveling next to and faster than a Greyhound bus, would register the same speed as the bus, on the old radar guns.

Now the alleged sensitivity of these guns can detect the exact speed of a vehicle in the left most passing lane (three lanes) from the shoulder next to the far right slow lane, with a greyhound bus in the slow lane, screening the vehicle in the fast lane for the most part. If there was a direct line of sight between the radar gun and the vehicle in the far left lane, it only lasted a few seconds before a dramatic decrease in the speed of the vehicle occurred.

How would one argue to successfully negate this alleged unassailable wiz bang Lazar accuracy?

well you just solved your own problem, the "wiz bang lazar accuracy" was prolly exactly that a lazar speed gun wich takes a direct reading off the vehicle its pointed at, unlike a radar gun

Bob,
Did you ask to see the radar gun? You have the right to see what you are being incriminated with. I had a officer try to pull me over for 47 in a 35. Guess what, the radar gun registered 43, well within the "unofficial" 10 over. The judge tossed it out without even going to trial.

The smartest thing you can do is find a local traffic attorney and pay his $300 fee (seems to be the average). Make sure you tell him everything, because he will make sure what needs to get said, gets said in court where it matters. Should get you either a plea bargain or get it tossed.
My last ticket they couldnt spell my name or address, it got tossed within 5 minutes in court. Well worth the $300 fee VS the $300+ insurance increase every year for the next 2 years.

I just bought a new radar detector and I HIGHLY recommend it to EVERYONE on here. Its expensive, but its damn worth every penny. The Escort 9500ix is absolutly amazing. It features speed cam GPS warnings and it remembers where FAKE signals are through GPS and dosent trip every time you drive by the same store! Its why I sold my V1.

The best advice I can give is just slow down. I know we all speed, everyone does, even my 56yr old father who used to go the speed limit religiously has started creeping over 10mph+ since living in Cali. It takes a lot of concentration and control to slow yourself down, but its worth it in the end. No tickets, less chance of a accident, and better roads for everyone. Being 2-5 minutes late isnt going to kill you.
