September 18th : Time to let the cat out of the bag

One of the topics of discussion for the next meeting on the 11th under New Business will be the planning of an engine rebuilding , hands on, dumb questions encouraged, teach you how to do it class.
I have discused this with Deena (CODE BLUE 2) and a few other members and we want you to bring your ideas to the next meeting or post them up in this thread so we can get this thing planned.
The basic idea is to have me do an engine rebuild for a club project. We would also like to video it and produce a dvd for the members and possibly to sell a few copies for the club's treasury . Nothing fancy , just a low key fun get together with open questions during the build encouraged. We are not intending to put together anything professional here. There are already other professional ones out there if you want that. The idea is more to show you how to do this at home, without special tools. I'm sure that my way of doing things will surely be critized by the perfectionists so don't get the wrong idea in thinking that this going to be professional traning course. We still have alot of planning to do such as when and where, but feel free to post your ideas on what you would like to see, and do alittle brainstorming for the next meeting. Hope alot of you will attend the NW RX-7 club engine rebuild class.

I may also have access to an SVHS recorder so we can put out higher quality cassettes if there is a demand for them.

I'm sure John that you will have a bigger turn out than you think. All of us could really use this help teaching us. I think if you own a rotary car, its pretty much a must to learn how to rebuild them, and learn as much as you can about them. Shops just cost too much money, especially over here in the Spokane area, not having ANY shops to go to.

My brother has a double garage. I really don't think he even uses it but for storing a few things. I was thinking about asking him if we could have it for all of our projects during the winter months. I'm sure a couple space heaters will keep us warm. I will ask him this week, and let everyone decide if the location is good for everyone if he says yes.

I also think that were going to have a pretty big turn out on the 11th, so I will be posting an address tomorrow.

You have everyone very excited John...words spreading fast...

Thanks again

We can always go out and use my mom's place if it gets too big... big house big garage and lots of room. The problem is that it's out of town about 15 miles, last 2 miles are gravel. This might be inconvienent for some members.

I know that we could use some funds to get an actual club going. Maybe sometime this winter we could find a cheap body in good shape and rebuild the motor, then sell the car, with the profit to be used for our club. Many times if we have events or with just anything going on with the club, and its always just a couple people putting out all the money. Just another thought anyway. A club member offered me 2 second gens for free if I want them, and said something about getting a first gen also for very cheap. Motors need rebuilding in them, but I was thinking about picking them up anyway.

Lots of us have extra parts laying around. I'm sure we could all pitch in.

I already have the motor and the gasket set. It's a 4 port 13-b that will probably go into my old 77 cosmo. The housings are already ported, they just need cleaned and painted. It has been waiting for me to get motivated to fix it for several years now. The Club won't have to come up with any money or parts for this one. Maybe we can do a whole car next time. Maybe a spring project.

I would like to, at some point, rebuild an engine with a collective club fund, and sell it, and use the return funds to sponsor a needy family for christmas. I think we should use the first one just to learn what the hell we're doing.

I think Bstrange99 has an awesome idea about building an engine for profit for a needy family.Would be happy to donate an entire block 13b or 12a complete with rotors and ecentric shaft. If any parts are needed for any club projects feel free to ask.
