problems with the new fd

so i went down and picked up a t67 single turbo fd this weekend from Arizona. the seller told me there was a oil leak and i had no problems with it the entire drive back to Washington. today i drove the car and all the gagues and power fc were reading fine but as soon as i reached the point where i usually would hit full boost the max psi it would run was 1. im not sure if this is caused by the oil leak but if anyone has any ideas please let me know. thanks.

Shouldn't be the oil unless the turbo seized... But it's probably a boost leak or something with the boost controller. If you have an electronic boost controller try resetting it and go drive the car. Also, some of us will be out at Wingdome in Kirkland tonight if you want to bring the car out Brian and I could take a look at it for you.

I would start with checking all your couplers, vacuum lines, and anything else in your boost system. Then move on to the turbo itself if that doesn't result in fixing the problem

most likely a ic pipe coupler blew off. BOV's have also been known to come off depending ont he flange type. Did you hear any loud bangs before this started? Like tim said, you should come out to kirkland tonight and we could probably find the cause pretty fast.

ok so i fixed the couplers and everything but it still wont boost over .85 psi. thats at very peak also according to my pfc. so i don't know what to do. it might be the waste gate but i have no idea how i would check that. the waste gate my just be stuck open. PLEASE let me know if you have any other ideas. thank you so much.

P.S. new to the community would love to check out some of your guys cars sometime

Karl, is your PFC reading .85? Because if it says .85 that's in BAR and that would be equivalent to 12.5psi... I would expect that you could tell the difference between 12.5psi and .85 psi so let me know if in fact you are only boosting .85psi.

Also, back to your boost controller, do you have one, if yes, which one?

ya its for sure in psi. it does not pull hard at all. im starting to get kinda worried and hope it is nothing major considering i just got the car. i really hope that its just a vac seal or the waste gate is stuck open and nothing major. the car is tuned at 8 psi. thanks

Yeah something you should check is pull the intake off your turbo and see if there is any shaft play side to side or up n down. Make sure it's plenty lubed up and spins freely

I guessing you dont have a mechanical boost guage, Also tim is correct the pfc should read in bars or kilo pascals, not psi.

With a single turbo conversion you should be lacking on vacuum lines. You've either still got a boost leak or you have an issue with your boost control somewhere. Has the idle or vacuum pressure changed at all? That would indicate a vacuum leak... Do me a favor and take the car out for a spin do a nice 3rd gear pull and tell me the exact numbers your PFC Commander reads for peak boost. If you're seeing .85 psi the boost on the PFC should read .05 and if you're PowerFC shows .85 for boost than you are boosting 12.5 psi which would indicate you have some major boost creep if your car is tuned for 8 psi. Sorry for redundancy but it's hard to not repeat myself when you're responses are somewhat indirect
