compression competition catagorys
1. highest compression/RPM
2. lowest compression/RPM
3. largest AVG. comp difference between F and R.
4. most uneven compression between 2 chambers in 1 rotor
5. highest cranking RPM
6 lowest cranking RPM

that way even if your motor sucks u can still be a winner! haha
That’s a novel idea, I like it alot

good luck with your move Blake.

We FINALLY got the call forwarding hooked up, so the old number will work (503-233-3878). Internet access will take a bit longer because they need to send out a DSL technician because some glitch in their database causes it to say it's not available here, despite our neighboring shop having it. If it's not one thing, it's another...

Just send a patch cord across the street and tap in. What are neighbors for.

Congrats on the move though.

My engine experience w/pineapple has been great! My engine compression impressed the hell out of the Mazda mechanic who tested it not long ago. Great knowledge and decent price along with great turnaround = happy customer!

I wouldn't mind a compression test again, would help with would be buyers. Plus it would be great to see Rob again

Blake,

You're most likely going to end up with a fractional T-1 or IDSL there on Airport Way. Horsepower Freaks has a full T-1 since they need that kind of bandwith. The closest telco central office is next to Winco on 102nd and that's too far for ADSL/SDSL. Man am I glad I don't have to install that stuff any more!

So, why can our neighboring shop (same building) have DSL and not us? Anyway, I hope you're mistaken.

We had cable at the other address, all the way on the other side of the block, but can't get it here. Don't ask why.

This is going to be a busy week! We just got back from Seventock 8, this morning. We have 25 FC high-capacity aluminum oil pans at the machinist; need to make some windage trays; 50 alternator brackets I just had cut came back 10% larger than scale...not our fault but now I have 50 3/16 inch mild-steel doorstops; the painter will be rolling out our walls sometime later this week (after he gets back from Sevenstock!); we need to epoxy the floors; Rob needs to set up a temporary work area so he can get back to work on engines ASAP; and I have to crew at an 8 hour endurance race at PIR this coming weekend, but our practice sessions will probably start on Thursday (hopefully Friday, so I don't lose another day).

Well, this is weird. Qwest cannot, by it's own rules, install DSL for us (they need at least ten orders, or something like that), but they MUST install it if we switch back to our old carrier (Integra), which leases access from Qwest. It's apparently something to do with the law regarding alternate phone providers. So, Integra can get us DSL (from Qwest) but Qwest will not do it or their own customers. Does that make any sense? Our neighboring shop with DSL has Integra too.

Well, unless Qwest has put in a remote terminal and DSL equipment you are not going to get ADSL or SDSL as you are just too far from the central office (CO). In fact I don't think Qwest even offers SDSL as it's a business class service that undercuts their T-1 business. T-1/fractional T-1 and IDSL can use repeaters so it can be installed much farther from the CO. IDSL is just ISDN with the 2B+D channels bonded together into a 144k stream.

I'm curious to know exactly what Integra is providing your neighbor as far as speeds are concerned. If it's 128/144k I'd bet it's an ISDN service. If it's 384/768/1536k then it's probably a T-1 service.

If you don't want to use Integra or Qwest for DSL then call Covad and see what's available.

Well, Josh, it's looking more and more like you're right (I was just in denial). The neighboring shop, which initially told us they had DSL, really has half a T1 upon closer questioning. Integra still swears they can get us DSL, but we've heard that before from Qwest. Funny how the sales departments think anything is possible but the tech guys don't agree. Probably the first time that's ever happened, right? Anyway, the neighbors seem willing to share the T1, so we might have the problem resolved afterall.

The good news is that we are shipping engines again. This powedercoated beauty went out today:

We also got our 112.5 KVH transformer (big sucker) and 120/208 300 amp panel, so there is now enough power in the shop to run a small city.

No problem. We'll be doing a lot more powdercoated engines in the near future, since this one turned out so nice. The engine also has ceramic seals, porting, an aluminum sump and a few too many plugs...want the Full Meal Deal?

Congrats on the new shop! I cant wait to see it when its all done.
Thanks. Neither can we!

No problem. Thanks for checking into it. We should have more than we need in just a few more weeks, when the landlord gives us the racking from the space next door (the other side).

Thanks again for the tour of the Horizon/Alaska facilities. You guys play with much cooler engines than we ever do, with or without powdercoating!

Why does it look like there are 8 spark plugs there?

You should have your eyes checked out immediately, because everybody knows 2-rotor engines only have four spark plugs.

In other words, no comment.

Actually, it's wired for 220 power, rather than the usual 110.

Sometimes I hate being right. If the neighbors will share that's cool. Just make sure you have a backup plan in case they leave. I installed service for at least couple of places that had their shared connection go away.

BTW, 112.5 KVA transformer is nothing compared to work. You should come visit some time and I'll show you what we have at the terminal. Two 750kW V12 Cummins driven generators, 2 big 450kVA UPS systems, etc. Normal site load is around 220kW, but the 18 meter antennas are electricaly deiced. If we have to use full deice on both antennas we have to run both generators.

Yeah, this is one from 7 or 8 years ago:

In some ways, it's too bad we can't show you all the Skunkworks Projects we do, like this. We build a lot of trick motors that the owners would not necessarily appreciate being put on the web.

I remember that motor That was built at the old shop in SE, when I was nothing but a lunch runner/engine tear down boy. CJ
