ltb. s4 straight body, no rust, no sunroof.

Just trying to narrow down my search to hopefully get a decent option within the new few weeks or so. After looking through the brochures online reguarding the 2nd generation rx7s i'm currently looking for:

86-87' Sports? edition?
88' GTu.
89-90' GTUs

straight bodies, lack of rust, manual gear box and ability to drive for at least.. short distances would be nice. Oh. and i'd prefer something without a sunroof. i would rather not the hassle n' extra maintence.

Thanks again, hope i dont bother any1 by spamming the boards so much. woud just reallie like to be driving again.

gosh. i really wish you lived closer. but if you're still looking to sell in a month or so i'd love to come down and take a look!

thanks for posting though. ^^

Still looking! WTB. Clean s4 "sport"! Will consider a GTUs if price isn't what you'd sell to a collector! thanks!

component choice is more important on a gxl than just the name. my 88gxl came with vented 4piston brakes front, vented rear, v rated tires, aas suspension.

aas is out and KYB AGX are in. as for sun roof maintanance lube the track and change the seal, did mine at 150k. the real extras are rear wiper/sun roof, air conditioning, elect mirrors

the last "sport" I checked had single piston front and rear non vented brakes no pover steering, 4 lug wheels

What you looked at wouldn't have been a "sport" then. The 4 lug and single piston brakes only came on the base and SE. The "sport" was actually a "package" on the base that gave it 5 lugs, bigger brakes, and a areo kit, ect. This package on the base is generally just refereed to as the the "sport" model. Unfurtunately the "sport" did not get a limited slip The only N/A models that came with a limited slip were every year GXL, the 1988 GTU and the 89/90 GTUs.

In 86/87 there was also a "luxury" package on the base model that did not upgrade the 4 lugs or brakes.

Most people specify that they don't want a GXL because of the AAS, the sunroof, the rear wiper, and the perception that the electric windows adds weight.

My personal preference would be a 88 GTU. Not just because it was the first RX-7 I have ever owned but because of the LSD, no AAS, no sunroof, no electric windows to worry about, and the areo's on it. Man I miss that car.

Steve

Sports rock. I have an 86 sport, not for sale though. It is a blast. It is the exact same platform as the 87 Turbos minus the drivetrain and the extra fat. FSM specifies that it had the same spring rates and coil size as the turbos and I think even the same struts. Theyre light and a blast to drive. Hope you find one in descent condition.

Ahhh, I always wondered what the "sport tuned suspension" feature included on the sport package. That must be it.
