Joe drives his car hard, plus it's his DD. I'm glad cooler heads (a cool woman) are calming things down and he's going to keep the car.

engine will be out in the next few days, delivered to Jesus house for tear down and inspection. Then we can make a plan for new build. If this engine had the failure I think it did, windowed rotor bearings and hardened stationary gears will go in.

I am hard on the engine, not afraid to say it. So we will build one for more hard use on the street. Can't wait to break in a new engine again, then knowing I can raise hell again. keep ya all informed on the findings and solution to a stronger build.

no not adding a window to bearing but just modify it a little longer and ramped for high rpm oil flow and modify e shaft oil holes the same way.

just an update......
from external investigation looks like apex seal failure due to wear at the rotor grooves of the apex seals them selves. Not verified yet but just an observation before full tear down. more to follow.........waiting for pictures after tear down, really want to get to the root of this so we can build better and stronger next time as I am really hard on them as a daily driver.

Drive it like you stole it.........................................

no no apex seals worn At rotor grooves. these were used parts put into the engine and were intended to be temporary just to get the car running so i had a way to work. I had intended to pull the engine a long time ago to put new parts in it just got to busy, so this is the end result.

You had worn used parts fail...

Your original frustrated statement RE giving up on rotarys is now invalid

Source some better parts and fall back in love with da BRAP!!!

It all makes sense now.
This happens all the time and is a example how rotary's get a bad rep for "blowing up".
Good to hear that your sticking with the wankle. Goodluck

The sang goes you get what you pay for, throwing brand new soft seals in a engine with 20yr old hard seals is a gamble

Joe get some ra classics with new springs and u will be saying 'im lovin it' just like McDonald's hahaha.

OK,i call B.S on the used parts = popped engine theory, why you may ask ? because i have used-used parts plenty of times,if it's done correctly the engine will just take longer to break in.a customer in hilo,Ha ran deep into the 9's on a third gen engine in an old corolla 22 psi on used parts as he had very little money,it ran for 5 years without any issues.so let's look a little deeper please.

If hard seals were reused on grooved housings than one would conclude the springs were probably also used and most likely the rotors were NOT cleaned properly before reassembly... I'm sure many things led to this engines demise...
He's already hinted he drives his car like he stole it, so, chances are the hard seals had not seated well... Don't know... USED hard seals are unpredictable...
I'd like to see the housings... Chrome condition? Chatter marks? Grooves? DORITO CRUMBS?

Holy ****.

Without knowing the guy, I've built some pretty wild visualizations around this whole scenario.
