+1 Intec Racing
Authorized Apexi Power FC Tuner

I don't mean to put down anyone personally, but I remember 7 years ago when I went to Intec with my old SW20 MR2 and talked to them about getting a 3SGTE swap. Lawrence straight up said "not possible, it cannot be done." I ended up buying a half-clip from Japan and doing it myself 6 months later. From that point forward, I take anything I hear from that place with a HUGE grain of salt.

It would be sweet if we could point to some real people that we know with RX-7's that have had success (recently) with Intec, but until we can, I am going to seriously consider alternative sources for tuning. Its a shame because Intec is in my area.

I wouldn't recommend that unless the car is 100% stock, Bckwoods.

Btw, I have time anytime during the summer to come up and do a group thing for you guys. Just need to know when is good for ya'll so we can get a thread started and get things rolling.

I would not recommend that at all. Even if the car is stock. If they seem trustworthy that's one thing. But talking to those guys about rotaries has always been a joke. I would never let them touch my car, ever. The last time I talked to them about an FD they built for a show I asked them about the car and I will quote them "it's fully built." and "650hp with a T3/T4 hybrid". I asked them about porting and stuff they said again "its fully built" but couldn't elaborate on what that included. Not the kind of people I would want touching any car of mine

I've never heard of any T3/T4 hybrid on a 13B making anywhere near 650hp.

my 95 is 100% stock (for now). i am going to fully document my build. so i need to do my base line pulls so i can have the sheets for my portfolio. they did seem trust worthy and good people in general. i always start with small stuff when i am getting to know a shop. i do like the fact that they are a a-pexi distibutor and the i can get warrenty work done there if need be. if i get fair prices and good service then i am happy. the main thing is the car. to me it is all about my car and if my car is happy and take care of right then i am happy...lol

Well if you want it taken care of right then you need to get it tuned by someone who is knowledgable with rotary tuning. I wouldn't consider them knowledgable just because they are an Apex'i dealer doesn't mean they tune rotaries well. As far as buying parts and using a dyno, I could recommend several other shops that are closer. Also, I don't see why you would need warranty work done on a PowerFC or any Apex'i products... I've never heard of one of their electronics malfunctioning.

im not really worried about tunning just yet. im talking about my base line dyno run's before i do any thing,a few bolt on's and some dress up under the hood. most of it is stuff i could probably do my self if i had a garage i could use.

Hey Robert, glad to here you schedule a dyno appointment. hopefully we'll be able to prove some of the non-believers wrong with your car.

that and it seems like i need to get my power-fc already and post my numbers with lawrence's tune. probably get a good power map out of it to shut people up, but have it re-tuned back down for drifting.

just because a shop doesn't specialize in rotaries, does not mean they don't know what they're doing. Lawrence's mentor who taught him everything he knows, specializes in rotary tuning. In fact he will be visiting us this summer, and I hope to have enough money to have him tune my car. The manager Mike had him tune his car a few years ago, and he said it was the best money he ever spent for his car.

I base my lack of confidence on speaking with someone about the car... If they talk a bunch of BS and try to talk themselves up and make absurd claims, they will never ever touch my car and will never get a recommendation from me. I know of shops that aren't rotary specialists but have great experience with troubleshooting and repairing the cars, but none that would tune or I would trust to tune

sounds like you were talking to the stupid girl who USED to work part time, specializes in bullshitting her way through conversations about cars.

The Yellow FD technically never really "ran". It idled and whatnot, but with (iirc) Megasquirt it never ran right. Went into the shop with a chopped and screwed engine harness and Paxton Supercharger. it's got full bridge port built by (again, iirc) Pineapple.

Now it has a stock harness installed, completely tucked and tidy'd up. It will be running Power-FC now with GT35r that they just recieved the manifold for. Lawrence's mentor made it, a copy of his own manifold on his time attack FD in Japan.

yea, not all the employee's know rotaries, but out of 6-7 employee's, 3 and the owner know their stuff.

I actually talked to a group of guys, some of whom were the builders (or so they claimed) of the Pink FD that's been runnin around Seattle for a couple years now. According to them I believe they said it was a Intec/Pit Stop collaboration. The best part was them claiming they hadn't even tuned it yet and it made 650hp. They just threw in a base map to drive it to the car show it was at.

how is mikey doing? I have been trying to reach him lately to find out his condition. send regaurds if you talk to him first. -Aaron

as for the yellow fd, that thing came in to their shop in terrible condition (like wtf were the owners thinking) from what I have seen it's on the right track with intec returing it to glory. if anyone has questions about intecs build quality look up A couple of their D1 full builds, now that **** is impressive!

it went great. it was the first time that i have ever seen a dyno done so it was really interesting. the #'s where a little depressing cause it was not what i was hoping for but it was a place to start. 197 RWHP and fuel/air mix was off the chart so im running way to rich. but its a starting point. but it did change the order of mod's that will be getting done.

What was your torque, how many miles on the engine?

For your reference: my car put down 208.0 whp and 181.5 tq with a catback and 88k miles

yeah i hear finding a tuner in WA is tough because you have to find someone who works on your specific EMS and also knows their way around rotaries. i bought my fd with a tuned 8bit apexi fc ems but will be installing a hks ems when my car is up and running. and i'm pretty sure i'm going to have to fly someone in to tune it.

Yeah HKS is a tough one to find someone who has vast experience. I am pretty sure Steve kan has some experience with HKS and he knows rotaries... But I would honestly stick with the Apex'i Power FC. What is your reason for switching?
