Seems a little low... DO you know what your boost level was? Are you holding full stock boost levels?

Stock boost pattern is 10-8-10... So if you're at 14psi those numbers are very low. Definitely get yourself a boost gauge when you start modding

yeah i remember hearing the 10-8-10 and with every thing being stock im sure thats what it would be. sry still learning alot of this. if i remember right i believe some body told me that my stock turbos should be able to push 14 without burning them up. so this is what im looking at for my first mods will be power fc + cmdr, spark plugs, spark wires, gauges, AST and silicon hoses. then full check-up, dyno / tune. i found this artical in a mod magazine and i was wondering if any body has tried any of these products for your ignition system.

Yeah stock turbos just aren't very efficient past 14psi

BNR stage 3. You can run about 18psi and it's basically a Garrett GT28 cartridge fitted with the stock turbo housing. Good for 400+ wheel horsepower

my current apex'i unit is an older model an 8 bit unit. i really like the hks f-con ems for their 32 bit mapping. i'm also going to be using mostly HKS parts but for now the power fc is more than what i need. I'll upgrade once I upgrade the turbo (HKS TO4Z) and get the race port done.

Makes sense. I had the same idea because I'm an HKS freak. And they do make a very good EMS, just not a huge HKS tuner market because not too many people stateside use it. I just like the ease of use with the PowerFC and not having to use as many gauges because I have the Commander to display

I totally feel you there on the lack of support for HKS stateside. it's probably the price that keep many others from buying the ems, but then there is the power FC which is known to just be awesome for the FD. Also having the Commander is convenient. I was going to do the whole HKS CAMP2 setup to take care of most of my gauges. since i like to be showy.

Yeah last I checked the MSRP on the FCON V2 was like $1400. And that was "new" last time I looked lol That Camp2 system is pretty dope. But I'm not one to have a stereo or showy companents to my car. I like everything subtle and not gawdy.

yeah I like subtly on FD's cause the car is perfect off the factory line. as long as you keep the factory paint and body good you couldn't tell that the design has been around since 92. If you know me, I like to mix subtly with gaudy and meet the two halfway.

Yeah I just don't dig the whole "show" modification anymore. I'll probably just use a laptop eventually as my monitoring system. Rip out the entire stereo. Add some controllers into a din panel instead. The car sounds so good I don't need music when I drive

cool thanks. thats perfect. when i do get there im not going to be going to much over 350-400 rwhp. so when i go to this type set up(BNR stage 3) insted of 10-8-10 will it be somthing like 16-14-16?

monday im going to be ordering my FC+ cmdr along with my hoses and AST.

then im thinking the next thing on my list will be moving my battery behind my seat, my gauges, intake and exhaust.

if anybody has any suggestions as far as reliability mod's as well as hp mod's that i may have missed or should consider as priority i would like to hear your advice.

You could really run any boost level you wanted. I think the wastegates used are higher psi rated springs than stock but I'm not positive. I think they run 14psi and stock runs 10psi

i was just going off of the numbers you gave me and making a semi-educated guess. still looking for real Numbers but all i get is 400+ rwhp cant find the actual amount of boost generated or recommended max psi

a local car photographer did a "test", and took the same car on the same day to several different dynos.

dynojet dynos showed lowest numbers, but were the most consistent

it's also the only dyno you can't "calibrate", the single roller is a static weight so the load is always the same.

and people say intecs dyno reads high

Dynojets usually read higher than most... That's odd.

Bckwoods: The max psi is really about 18psi to hit the 400hp number. I haven't seen anyone go above that. Cuz the housings are quite small for the size of the cartridge so it will start to lose efficiency and just become a source of extra heat. But 400hp is in non-sequential form that it was done with much tuning. I haven't seen anyone hit 400hp in sequential yet. On sequential expect to see more in the 375whp range with around 18psi. The transition boost can't really be predicted. With an open exhaust my car hardly drops off of it's 14psi at all.

?

what do u mean buy the size of the cartridge? think the housings are just the outside right of the turbos right ?

The cartridge is the combination of the compressor and turbine wheels that are inside the housings. So in other words the BNR stage 3s are stock housings with larger wheels

aaahhhh ok. i got ya. so can i assume that just about any turbo that is good for between 350 and 400 hp should fit in the space of the stock turbos?

NO do not assume that! The housings have to be modified to accept the different cartridges. Because they are larger and longer than the stock cartridge the factory housings need to be modified. Really the only changes you'd want to make to a turbo would be using a different sized A/R exhaust housing (or on some turbo models the compressor housing) when wanting to take advantage of the difference in performance. A smaller A/R on the exhaust side will cause quicker spool but limit the top end, the larger A/R will create more lag but increase your top end.

My buddy Kane with PPO2 performance will be coming into Seattle on the 10-11 of September. I'm having a BBQ at my place the evening of the 10th.

If you are interested in stopping by, please check out the website and download the latest version of the Beta and read up on how to do your own tuning. We are looking for all the feedback you can give. PM me if you would like to stop by.

This is mostly out of curiosity for future reference, since I don't actually own any fuel-injected cars at present, but do Steve or Brian or anyone else tune MegaSquirts?
