How much would you pay for this 91 FC?
How much would you pay for this 91 FC?
I'm not selling this car.... I'm just looking at purchasing it & just wanted to see what everyone else thought a reasonable (cash) offer for this car be?
the asking price is $3900
I'd say its in "good" condition according to KBB.com
1991
Blue
5 speed
N/A Rebuilt, “street ported” motor w/approx. 25k miles
Approx 140k on chassis
no mods to suspension or engine... other than streetport.
interior is in "ok" shape, its original
Bad:
Automatic shoulder belts, ones broken (wasn't there a factory on them?)
rear wiper doesen't work
not sure of any more details, I'll need to take a closer look at it.
not sure if its really street ported, the person I spoke with was not very clear.
original engine was blown and replaced w/rebuilt... or it was rebuilt, not sure.
the only pic avaible is attached, pretty crapy pic though.
Thanks in advance,

you should be able to find a copy of the recall somewhere on the forum, if not then i'll scan it for you..
Yeah there is a recal on it, but if the car was already taken in for the recal they wont do it again... and even if it wasn't some dealerships give you alot of flak for it. Your best bet would probably be to 'covert' to the older s4 manual seatbelts.
the recall is NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID Number : 96V173000

yeah the guy i spoke with said he got it from his friend... who blew the motor then replaced it before selling it to him.

Also I think (*PLEASE* correct me if i am wrong... my passenger side is acting up again after fully changing it out) if its been "tampered" with they won't touch it and charge you an arm and a leg to fix it.

Firstly and formost, take it to the dealer and make them fix it. Thats going to be your best option, since there *is* a recall on it and you havn't touched it yet... just be sure to have the recall number in hand. They might fail again, they might not... chances are not... and if they do again just complain back to the dealership. Its not something you really want to mess with if you can, more than likely the plastic covering around the track is going to break and then you will have to look for another one. Alot of people dont like the automatic-ness and convert them to the manual due to all the hassle etc... so just take it to the repair center/dealer and deal with them to fix it first :p

My brother was the one that blew the original motor. I remember that only the lap belts worked. Everything on the interior and exterior is pristine. The guys at Mazdas & More that put the new motor in were going to slap some headers on, too, but they were poorly welded and so my dad didn't put them on. I think they're still in the new owner's possession (the new owner is my friend's dad - I think they're selling it because he wants a motorcycle). It's also been "balanced" and has a lightweight flywheel.

cool thanks for the info joeberentsen, but what exactly do you mean by "balanced" ?
also if you know any of the previous service history of the car can you please PM it to me?
such as the last time you know the "wear items" were serviced (brake rotors, calipers, pads, clutch.... suspension, wheel bearings.
and if you can remember... did the door locks work from the outside? (can the key be inserted?)
I had an issue with my old FC, my drivers side keyhole was busted and would not even let the key be inserted.
Also, please check your PMs

The seat belt is required by law to work for as long as the veicle is legaly registered to drive on the road. They haveto legally replace it even if there was no recall. No matter what type of car you have if the belt stops working and they can't prove that something you did causes the failure then they have to replace it for free. That's why most newer cars have a bag around the belt inside the pannel that covers it. I was told with my old hnda that if there is any debree in there then that could've caused the damage and I would be responsible fot the repairs. But ther was nothing but dust and dirt in there so i got it fixed for free. Did the same thing with my Jetta too, so I know it's not just a Honda thing.
I don't know what they mean by "balanced," and I don't know about any of the documentation - it was my brother's car. My dad (cberentsen) would know all of that. Feel free to PM him. The door locks worked fine when we sold it. Sorry i'm lazy about my PMs.
