WA Haven't Posted in years. How is the scene?

Its actually been years since I have logged into my account. Just kind of wondering what everyone is up to nowadays, any meetups, shows or anything lately?

It's funny how people view a thread/post, yet decide not to comment...that lack of participation seems to be wide spread within' the rotary community (and it does nothing good for us)...I know I'm extremely guilty of it myself.

Do you have vids of your bug on YT? -Cuz I'd bet yes...I'm pretty sure I've seen your bug...Mukilteo area? I'd love to have a rotary swapped bug/beetle! Speaking of that, the VW air-cooled community in WA, trounce all-over the rotary community in participation (numbers of people/cars @ gatherings & such)...those guys get together!

Scene? Rotary scene? Let me check. There is a FC in my garage and I see that nearly every day. I can't remember the last time I saw another RX7. I seriously think it was when I sold my other RX7 4 months ago. There is no rotary scene in Seattle.

I saw a 1st gen driving through my neighborhood the other day. I about had a heart attack. Other than the 1st gen in my garage, I don't see them anymore either. I actually started coming by here again now and then because I drug mine out and have been driving it to and from work lately and it got me thinking about this place.

It seems like RX7 owners fall into two categories. Rotorheads who choose to drive them and could afford to "upgrade" to something newer and "better". Those of us who fall into this are generally older, have families now, have time consuming jobs, and generally aren't interested in a "scene" because of lack of time and other things associated with the scene which we may not want to be associated with. The other type typically buy them because they are cheap rwd sports cars and can not afford more than $2k for a car. These people may develop into rotorheads but generally they can't afford to keep the rx7 on the road and quickly move on to something more practical, reliable, newer and cheaper to keep on the road. Those people are more interested in being in a "scene" but move onto something else so fast the scene never develops. These are typically younger car enthusiasts in college or just starting out in jobs and aren't as tied down in life.

Your assessment is spot on. I was one of the younger ones who got into them cheap and had fun, but developed a passion for them. Much like the other usernames who have the gold 10 year rotor badge under their user name. It's been 13 years since I joined to find help on the first RX-7 I ever worked on, and a lot has changed in my life. I am now "older", have a fairly time consuming job, I own a home I have to take care of, I have a son to take care of, etc. I am always up for meeting fellow RX-7 owners though, I have only met a handful of you guys in person even after 10 years, haha.

Job, check
Wife, check
Child, check
Small business, check
House, check

Time to work on my 7.... no. Once every two months I get 4-6 hours on a Saturday and that usually involves changing the oil on all 3 cars and very little else. I have more free time while I am at my 9-5 job than when I am not at it!

I've been driving FC's since I was 19 in 1999. I will always have one. Slowly building the car I always wanted when I was 19 but it will take a long time.

I think the cars are just getting older. FDs are as old as FBs were when I first joined the club. Amazing how the FD still manages to fetch as much money as it does. Come to think of it, the prices of Rx7s hasn't really changed at all for any generation.

I personally have been waiting for a garage before I start my next thing, be it cosmo, rx7, whatever.

The RX-8 makes a great daily driver in the interim however.

id also agree a good assessment of owners, ive grown older, now owning nicer rotary vehicles,fd and rx8, then bought an audi for the wife...

I do still have my "young guy beat up drift machine" my 100 dollar shell from 2005! it goes a lot faster now! but it still looks just as beat haha

I think back in 2003-2007 there were plenty of people with cheap beater ones as well

I've been driving these cars for years & working on them for more years. maintaining an rx7 is a full time job. Ordering special parts, returning incorrect parts, calling other owners asking questions, borrowing tools, scheduling lift time, waiting for pay checks ect.

I would be interested in going on drives once the car is set up fully. Leavenworth sounds promising
