thats not true and for the record, i got pulled over again today, same road, this time it was for a the little bit of smoke my car puts out when its cold. the cop said i need to have it looked at, it could be a valve.

I think the reason they are pulling me over is cause they might not be able to run my plates til i get my new ones in the mail

I thought I heard a tapping when you showed up at the meet.

And I would bet on the plates too. Gives cops a good reason/excuse to pull anybody over.

Yeah ninja you might have a bent valve or something... Maybe even a bad head gasket depending on the color of the smoke.

That's true. I didn't even think of the head gasket. -__-

how can i be "suspicious" when you can see both my hands (one on the wheel the other hanging out the door) and im bobbin my head in time with the music?

cops.... catch em sleeping though and then they always leave ya alone..

Ok I have the biggest ticket story. This happened yesterday....

I was bored in between classes so i went for a drive in the country towards a neighboring city (dallas). As I approached a stop sign which led the main highway to this town, i look in my mirror and see an EG civic hatch. I pull on to the highway and he's on my *** and so I thought I'd give him a run for his money...of to 110mph and I pass a car and no big deal. He slows down and I arrive to Dallas.

As i drive through town I see a cop in my mirror about 4 cars back and pull over. He comes up right behind me and he gets out and walks up to my car. He asked me why I was speeding with that other car at a clocked speed of 119mph? I played dumb and said i didn't see the other car and that i was only going 65 to pass that car. Well that car i passed turned out to be an unmarked cop. He called it ahead and by the time he went back to run my info, there were 4 cops behind me....

After 20 min or so and me thinking, "I might be going to jail today...." he comes back and says I technically should be in arrested and my car impounded, and instead lets me off with a warning!!!!! I mean really????

Speed Racing, Reckless driving, double the speed limit, excess of 100mph...the list would have gone on...but no...just slow down or next time is jail time....

Wow, if I were you I'd run out and buy a lottery ticket.

Here is a related question for you guys, and I don't want this to sound negative. I don't know the year of Rx that bozo has, but many of you are driving cars that are 15-22 years old. For those that may have a 1st gen, you could be driving a car that is older than you are.

I know that my FD is in pretty good shape but is 14 years old. When I'm driving it fast, in the back of my mind is the knowledge that much of the components have been in use for a LONG time and possible could fail at any point. The fastest I've had my FD was about 104mph, as I was passing a line of trucks in the midwest. I don't think there is any way that I'd drive it at 110-119mph on public road.

Maybe I'm just more cautious than most? I used to be a private pilot and have been a sailor all my life and have had the idea of preparing for the unexpected drilled into me. I'm also almost 50 years old and have learned that, more often than not, things don't always work out as planned. I figure that if something breaks while autocrossing, it would be expensive and dramatic, but not fatal for me or others. I'm not as confident that I would survive a catastrophic failure at 100+ mph if the car decided to cartwheel.

Am I alone? How many of you are that confident in the mechanics of your cars at speed? What gives you that confidence? How do you ensure that the mechanics of your cars are up to the task? I guess I'd like to know what I could do to my car, or how to maintain it, so that I'd be as confident as many of you seem to be.

Again, I'm not trying to pick on tallbozo, but really am curious as to how and why many of you are so confident?

My answer to your questions would be, not to worry because you can fix whatever problem arises. There is no point in owning a great car if you can't experience the full potential of it, and you baby it all the time. **** happens. I'm personally not confident in my car, but it doesn't stop me from going crazy once in a full moon.

I have been pulled over a few times, but only been ticketed twice (and they are funny ones).

I was ticketed by photo radar for doing 42 in a 35 (or 30) in Beaverton in my Geo Storm (hey, it got 50mpg once, lol). BTW, am I the only one that thinks photo radar makes cops lazy? Maybe a donut will make them go away?

I was nailed by aircraft radar (and pulled over by cop after a moment or two) for 82 in a 70. Cop didn't even ask me for a reason (passing a damn semi), just got my info, and handed me the ticket. And to think, I was going to buy the Team America soundtrack at Best Buy, bastards.

Only two times I've been ticketed.

Yes I can just see you telling the judge, That Sir, it is impossible I was clocked going 60 in a 30, because I never left second gear, and I know that my second gear doesn't go above 55. lol

lol makes me think of my bike, i can brake every speed limit in the state and never leave first gear, i think it does like 73 in first. normally at that point in time the front wheel is still off the ground and im shifting to second. couple years ago got bored and decided id screw around for my freinds watching and took off from a stop light down the road from my house, pulled the front end up and got up to about 50 when i saw a city cop pull out onto the road driving towards me, lol i of course droped the front down and got it slowed down to 30 and he eyeballed me as i rode by but never pulled me over. im assuming because by the time he saw me the front was down and he never got a radar on me. deffinatly the last time i did that in town tho. thats my close encounter cop story, lol most of them normally just end in tickets

So he basically pulled you over to warn you that "if" you were speeding and they caught you, that you were going to get pulled over and cited for it. Sounds like you were the victim of another captain obvious incident.

What an ***. You "sounded" like were speeding.

A bank here in town was robbed about a year ago, which is DIRECTLY across the street from the city police department. He got away. I'm sure the cops were busy though, you know, waiting in line at the donut shop, jerking off some poor old guy for not waiting 3 seconds after signaling to make his lane change and for being 2mph over the speed limit, and waiting for the K-9 unit to come sniff out his car just in case this old man was a wanted drug runner, you know, more important stuff than a bank.

yeah i know that speeds over the limit is especially dangerous and its not a habit for me. I definitely learned my lesson of where cops 'could be' and that like the cop said, Put me in Jail. Thats not something I want to have on my record considering i want to be a cop in a few years.

I think the reason why I didn't get a ticket was that my choices were jail or nothing. Any written definition of this event would have resulted in me in jail and car impounded due to the nature of the event. I got the mercy of the cops and I am very grateful and not at all proud of this the more time i have had to think about it.

Its not worth it and there are legal places for speed like this and its not on the road...I have learned my lesson and I saw to anyone who thinks they can get away is that you will be caught.

Save it for autocross and the drags which is both cheap and just as exciting. Save a life and race on a track!

Most are young and too dumb to realize anything could happen. Myself included.
I trust my car ability to cruise all day (at least while the gas lasted) at 100+mph. I personally have checked all suspension components many times and trust the person who built it, it has never been wrecked and has hardly any rust and none of the key peices. Now the actual ammont of time I drive 100+ is rare and not for very long, but I will say the car is stable at 6k in 5th gear on the short burst I have given it.
