Ya. Dunno what your state requirements are. Look your DMV web site. that info should be there. IF not, contact your local inspection station and they can provide that info for you.

State Patrol inspection usually just makes sure it will be safe to drive on the road and that all there is nothing that could be a potential hazard. Which means all parts are to meet DOT standard (eg. taillights, headlights, brakes, windsheild).

Here at the Bellevue location, they check the VIN and body parts for mathcing VINs to make sure its all legit. Ive taken cars there to get inspected before that were still totaled. They arent looking to make sure its drivable, theyre looking to make sure its legal and nothing is stolen or hacked so they can reassign a VIN if needed. Bring receipts for ANYTHING replaced on it, nothing from eBay counts (auction print offs, etc). It has to be a legit business receipt. The DMV usually has a flyer that explains all this. Just stop into a vehicle license office and ask if they have an info sheet for getting a vehicle inspected by the WSP. If not, I THINK I have one floating around somewhere from the last rebuild I did with a truck.

Ive been through this at least 3 times now I can think of in recent memory. Once for my RX-7, once for my girlfriends 4Runner that was totaled, once for another truck I rebuilt. Its the same inspection required for ownership in doubt basically also.

Be ready to have some fun. They will most likely send you to emissions if your engine is blatantly missing things, or you have anything after market/shiny on there. Ask me how I know.

would they send him to get emissions testing even if the area hes in doesnt require emissions? because he would have to travel all the way to vancouver or spokan for any sort of WA state emissions.

(If I sound like a dick, I really don't mean to be. I am just informing. No offense to anybody. )

First, we have a facility in yakima to do emission tests. Second he is going to be using a totaled car, this will throw up some flags where they will look a little harder at the car than normal. When they pop the hood and see that it says TURBO on the intercooler, or has some shiny pipes going to his FMIC they will get concerned since the car's vin is non-turbo. If they do make you emissions test, you are going to fail it anyways, as im sure you don't have your air pump and cat (even if you do, there is STILL a good chance you are going to fail, it's just super hard for our engines to pass emissions. Ask scrims. lol) You will have to take the car out to a shop they recommend, get 150$ (I think) worth of work done, and try and pass it again. (Then you will get a waiver)

OR you could get lucky, no one will car or think twice because your car is a 198X, and you will be off and rolling without any problems or hassles. It's worth trying, the least they say is no. It all depends on how much of a dick the person wants to be that day.

wow i didn't know Yakima had any stations,

If they do follow the state testing like the other counties do, there wouldn't be any visual inspection for the emissions and they really shouldn't really care if the car if it was turbo or not. I use to work for emissions and motor swaps isn't a big deal for us in Washington. Iv tested countless RB and 20Bs in seattle, and as long as they passed it isn't a big deal.

But your right about having rotaries pass emissions..80% of the rotary equipped cars iv tested failed emissions badly.

Gutted cats, smoke and hooked up to emissions with some numbers matching, checking etc and they said sign here and have a nice day. Yakima isnt that bad, they just want to make sure the car is not going to blow up in traffic.

Also, be aware with that waiver that was talked about above, some cops in other states or counties won't care that you have the waiver. I just recently got a ticket even though I'm driving legally with a waiver.

I'm fighting it, but just be aware that some ******* cops may not care even if you are legal according to your county.

Also be sure to have all the recipts ready for any replaced parts. Sometimes they are super **** about that stuff. Also just make sure its 100 percent stock so you wont get question about anything. After you get done with your inspection that is when I would recommend modding it.

What some people do is insurance fraud. They steal they're own car, and tell insurance someone stole their car. Then collect insurance money and buy it back from the auction for dirt cheap. Since they have all the parts sitting at home they just reassemble it and sell it making twice as much money.
