Appraisal?

Hi Folks,

I am in the process of getting my FD insured. I'm going to get a stated value policy and need to have the car appraised. Anyone know of someone that does appraisals on RX7s in the Puget Sound region?

Turbo NA FC cheap insurance FTW!

sorry I know that didn't help or have anything to do with your .... problem.

I would like to know if FD insurance is much higher than FC though....

Let me know what you end having to pay, and if you have any tickets and such.

It is a little hard to break it out. I have 4 cars, 4 drivers (but one is away at college), I'm old, have no current tickets. My wife is also old and no tickets. My son is young (17) and stupid (getting pulled over for driving 75 in a 35 zone, at night, is stupid!) but didn't get a ticket. Both kids get the good student discount. I also am going through SafeCo and I get a discount for having my home and business insurance through them as well.

I am getting a policy that considers the car a "collector vehicle". As such I am only supposed to drive is less than 2500 miles a year. My agent said they rarely check and not to worry about it. My own integrity is such that I'll try and keep it to 25k. If I can't, then it will cost me an extra $800 per year to insure it as a regular vehicle with a stated value of about $16k.

Hey, another old guy!! I really don't know if they consider an FD a collector car per se.
However if you are getting a stated value policy, you can set it for whatever you want, cant you? I would suggest going on line to edmunds.com or kelley blue book and spec'ing your car out on their used car value program. Kbb is usually higher. That should give you a reasonable idea of what the car is worth on the market. The site takes in to account mileage and condition and gives a value for the area. It is something.

Certain insurance companies like Hagerty etc will have you state a value I believe. It sounds like you will be going through Safeco though.

Safeco wants an appraisal on a stated value policy. It is a lot cheaper to go through Safeco because of all the business I have with them there is a pretty good discount. kbb etc. would only value the car at about $4k less than I paid for it and a lot less than it would cost me to replace.

That is sort of the catch 22 with FD's. We enthusiasts believe that the car is worth a lot of money (witness your willingness to pay $4K more than BB for the "right" car).
Unfortunately for us, you can scroll the 3rd gen FS section and find rollers for less than $10K, and many "nice" cars sell for less than $15K on the forum. Too many people mod these cars into worthlessness. (you can see many examples of FD's that have upwards of $20-30K of mods for sale for more than half off what the owner dropped into them).
If I were you and needed and appraisal for insurance, I guess I would search the net for car brokers who deal with specialty cars and are located in Seattle/Tacoma and have them do an appraisal. If you have a value in mind, i am sure a broker could get close to that figure for you.

so, after a google search,
Seattle
http://www.jande.com/index.html
Seattle/Tacoma/
http://www.autoappraisal.com/insurance.htm
It looks like the second company actually does insurance appraisals on collectable cars and has a number of agents in the NW...
good luck

Thanks.

BTW, I just found out that the son of one of my employees bought a 198? Rx7 and is trying to rebuild it in his garage. His mom told me today that he was up at your place picking up some parts for it yesterday. He just got out of UTI and is working at Robert Larson.
