Rx owners like data? There is entirely too much variability to be data based on this form. I like to elaborate on my point and generally when I elaborate I use more wording (the same way as I do when I talk as you've noticed Jeff). I guess I'm not so much the engineer then, More of the engineering manager? As far as tangents go, get used to them, about 1/3 the ME staff is going to, and no, they don't all drive Miatas. I do however like your stereotyping Miata drivers like that. You going to go and root the home team against your bitter enemies at the civil war game next year too while you're at it?

Zach,

Go "elaborate" in another thread.

Engineering manager? I have sympathy already for your future subordinates.

What for? I'm actually a pretty nice/good guy when you don't do several things to **** me off that I consider unethical.

I'm sure you can be a nice guy. It's just that you come across as supercilious and self-important.

I think I give that impression on the forum because I've gotten progressively more bitter over the time. I do think I know a great deal about these cars (particularly second generations) and when I know a lot about something, I'll be arrogant based on company at times. Oh well!

Hoofhearted,

How much did the shipping company charge, and where was it coming from?

I'm just curious, if I find a car for sale that is long distance, I want to know what to expect for transport costs.

A price is negotiated with the broker; the broker publishes the price/destination/car/etc., for the truckers to bid on. When a trucker figures it's worth his time/money he notifies the broker and schedules the pickup time. The broker pays the trucker unless it is COD.

There were several options to pick from when shipping.

Open container or closed container. I selected an open one because it was less expensive.

Then there was the "how fast do you want it" factor. Standby was the cheapest; basicly when ever there was room on a truck. This could take a month or two.

The next level up was 5-10 days. That's what I selected. I found out later that this means it may take 5-10 days to get here AFTER it is pickedup.

Then there is 1-8 days.

And finally "expedited" which is the fastest and most expensive.

Prices started for the 5-10 day one I selected at $970. And we all know about the extra $325 I eventually paid.

In all fairness, I was offered an enclosed container for an extra $300 on the day after I placed my order, but I out smarted myself on that one and declined.

I'm still mystified about the extra $200 for the "special equipment" needed to off-load the "lowered" car. That would be the two wooden 2x4's.

Oh well, live and learn.

Does it matter where the car is coming from as far as mileage then? Where was your car coming from, or how many miles was it?

Ya, the 200.00 for the "lowered" car thing was a rip off. Basically a scam if you ask me. I would've bitched about it to the broker if I were you. Just tell them that the 200.00 fee paid for two lengths of 2x6's and see what they say. The thing is, the trucker knows he pretty much has you over a barrel so they try to f@ck ya.

It sure would have been nice if the seller had mentioned that the car had been lowered.

Add this to the extra $100 bucks I was hit with yesterday by the transporter. Apparently there are a bunch of snow-birds leaving Florida this time of year and there are more cars to move than there are transporters, so the supply and demand factor plus the rising fuel prices sorta forced me to fork over the extra dough to get the car scheduled with a carrier.

The $upri$e$ ju$t keep it from being $weet and $imple.

Ain't it the $hit$?
Mike,

It came from Florida.

I paid about two grand last September to have a '29 Ford Panel Delivery shipped from Mass. in an enclosed container. I did not go through a broker that time, I delt directly with the shipping company.

Somehow missed the Florida part in your first post, sorry about that.

About 10 minutes ago I finished doing a tune up on it. New wires, plugs, cap/rotor. I'm posting this, walking out the door and giving it a test.

It runs really nice. No coughs, sputters or farts.

The B&M shifter really jerks the ole noggen back when it grabs second and third. Spun the tires going from first to second gear.

The tach isn't calibrated for the V8, so the rev-limiter was screaming at me a lot. It's an easy fix to recalibrate the tach, but it has to be pulled from the dash.

Kinda freaky not having a speedo. A couple of times the cops did a head spin but no ticky (yet).

The power steering rack really sucks without a power steering pump. Any one out there have a manual steering rack they can point me too?

I stopped at KFC and got dinner. Flipped the fuel cut off switch off while waiting in the drive thru. I forgot to switch it back on and got about two blocks when it ran out of fuel and I also forgot that I had shut it off. I thought "OH SHUT!" out of gas; coasted into a parking lot ready to figure out how to get a can of gas, etc...Then the light bulb went on in my head. dah, flip the fuel cut off switch ON, you moron. Switch on, car run.

Never ending fun.

Gambone,

So the chevy tranny changes the rearend ratio from RX7's 4:10?
