1985 gsl-se turbo????

so i sold my s5 for 5 grand to some kid at my school...guess he really wanted it. i picked up a gsl-se which has the 13b motor same as the fcs. now what i was wondering is if i could take the turbo parts and stuff off a, lets say s4 turbo and then make mines a turbo. is that possible? also anyone got some nice deep dish mesh rims?

Well, there is very little in common. (I'm assuming its a n/a S5) Yes, they are bolth 13Bs, but thats about where it ends. The S5 is a much better engine. Due to electronics, weight reduction, intake manifold design, and other neat little things.

You can infact, just slap a turbo onto the car. Providing you have a fuel system built for forced induction, a after market ecu, maybe a larger exhaust. At this point, you might want to upgrade the tranny too. Good luck with your project...and I hope it works out in the end. CJ

Take a look at www.turbofb.com. I posted my brain dump of making a Turbo 1st Gen there. It can be done, can be a lot of fun, and you'll learn a ton along the way!

Why not? How many n/a engines are running around on boost? Quite a few.

The high compression will be a total bitch to deal with if you just slap a turbo on a n/a. Unless you want to run like 3psi, now who would want that? Anyway GL!

Uhh there are guys putting *alot* of boost to the 89+ n/a style rotors. They are 9.7-1. The stock 89+ turbo rotors are 9.0-1. All I'm saying, is with the stock turbo, and the correct tuning, the factory 9.5-1 gsl-se rotors will be fine. He's not shooting for 400rwhp on pump gas....CJ

yah, there r some guys i've heard using s4 na rotors (9.4:1) with their turbo cars. n if the whole high compression thing gets u down switch out the rotors, like some s4 TII or s5 rotors.

Yes, Like the motor in Eriksseven's car.... which I built. The problem is not the compression, it is "just bolting on a turbo" There is alot more to it than that and the average noob would be in way over his head trying to get it to work.

darkslidebien.... look into how much work it would be to swap a 13bt in and then understand that that is the easiest route. Then decide if it is something you are up for.

Well, if you're a noob, chances are you're better off starting with a turbo platform. Good luck. CJ

check the slave cylinder, same thing was happening in my gsl n a replaced slave cylinder fixed it (i think that was it). you could always port it n get a better intake n exhaust. theres tons of **** to do but seriously hold off on all that learn about the car n then do wutever u want to it.

Install Pineapple sleeves and add a 50 shot of NOS. You'll be quite happy.

well im running NA-turbo in my s4 , but

to turbo a gsl-se would be alot harder than turboing a FC , the engine electronics, and ignition system are totally different, you would have to do quite ALOT of rewiring,

then add on the normal na turbo things u have to do fact u need to make custom oil lines and modify t2 intake manifolds to fit a 6 port block or space the turbo out. turbo injectors, ecu, get a hood scoop or a front mount.... ect

i would only try this swap if you are familiar with wiring and very mechanically apt. so i dont think this is the route u want to take

yeah that turbo FB website kinda over-exaggerates costs a bit and assumes your retarded and cant do anything your self.

my point, as im working on this project right now. i have a 84 GSLSE and had a 85 GSLSE parts car. Both with good motors. THe 84 runs so im going to drive it until the parts are compiles and ready to go. Mind you im a parts ***** though so alot of stuff i just have laying around. Costs so far:

84 and 85 GSLSE, both running and driving $1000
Rebuild the one motor - $800 dollar est cost if i dont use ceramic seals (i get OEM for cost +10%)
4.44 ring and pinion from Mazda B2600 - $100
stock turbo II turbo AND manifold w/ actuator (s4) - free (from my TII, now with T04B)
intercooler from Conquest - $75
N/A upper intake manifold (for extra injector set / and intercooler alignment) - Free
Exhaust (custom) - $100 dollars in materials
Walbro External 255 pump - $100
680CC injectors for prims and seconds. - Free (i started with two GSLSE's...)
Megasquirt MS I maybe II if they get the code done for the rotary - $250 + wiring

I know there is stuff i missing but that is the biggest. Tapping the front cover is no big deal. When running oil lines becomes the worst of my problems, ill be quite happy.

Three things, you do not want a turbo car with a 4.44 rear end, I had one and went back to a SE ring and pinion, Way to easy to over boost, and way to short on the free way and drag strip. Conquest intercooler, good luck trying to find couplers or adapters to fit over the inlet pipes, I gave mine away, not worth the hassle, Ebay 18x12x3 with 3 inch inlets, 99 dollars all day. Third SE rotors are great, but also come with a 9.4 cr. thats getting up there. . If you have any Q's give me a pm, I have been running my full S-5 T2 82 FB for nearly two years.
