12a FB problems

well after spending the time on here reading and the time under the hood tuning the carb i had finally gotten it to a happy medium.

it was idling around 1300-1500 and driving nicely.

recently i took it for a spin and noticed it was sputtering around 5k and occasionally on a steep hill accent. so i got it started up today and started to adjust the two carb adjustment screws.

well now its a bit messed up. it will start and run with the pedal being feathered but when i let go it sounds like it will go straight to ZERO and die (and it will if i let it). the car is sounding very rough when i feather it as well.

also i hear a loud noise after i brought it in to do the second adjustment, opened the hood to find a belt broken and slightly melted in a spot yet i cannot seem to find out where the belt came from. i have double belts on the alt and i dont see any other pulley for a belt to go on.

anyone in seabeck that could help a new rotohead out?

thanks guys!

Nikki carb tuning is fairly simple. It sounds like one of the problems you may be having is your accelerator pump. The rod can be easily adjusted with a 7mm nut driver. As far as tuning the air/fuel mixture screw, I like to start with it all the way in, come out 2 1/2 - 3 turns, set the idle to about 800 RPMs, and turn it in slowly richening it until the idle stumbles, then come out about a half turn or so. Set your idle again to 800 then from there you can adjust your accel pump.
Good luck.

as far a your sputtering issue, when have you replaced the fuel filter, I replaced mine like every month and a half. ****** clogged up fast. Its a junk filter but only costs 6 bucks, so easy to replace. I'm willing to bet thats the high end sputtering if you haven't changed it. I'd also do a tune up. spark plugs cap and rotor, oil change if its due.

i was going through the manual and i think i will replace the fuel filter and possibly the fuel pump (depening on if the filter helps).

now i need a new battery (old one sat too long) and also to track down my possible short. i am hoping it is just the battery and not a short somewhere.

I live in Seabeck, thought I was the only seven in this neck of the woods! I's be happy to help ya out if ya need. I'll pm ya my humber and address.

edit: I also have a bunch of misc. 12a parts and stuff, so if we locate the problem I may have a spare part on hand.
