Ask Mazda Execs Anything

I will be interviewing Mazda Execs tomorrow, after the press conference in Detroit. Mark Fields and Phil Martins will be tag teaming questions from me. I thouhgt I would ask the community, what would you like asked.

Please keep the questions simple, try not to ask the obvious (I'll ask those).. What I'm looking for are deep, in depth, questions that will probe the top execs at Mazda.

you can post them up here, or email them to me ( dan@rotarynews.com )

Thanks

Why hasn't Mazda put the FS_ZE motor into the Protege yet!!!???

And, will an AWD turbo rally edition car return?

These may all be obvious, but they're what I want to know:

Are there any current designs for an RX-7 to be built off an RX-8 platform? How far along are those designs? Are they beyond the clay model stage, or are they just sketches? What power level of rotary engine are you looking at for the car? Is it turbocharged or supercharged?

Are you considering a turbocharged or supercharged engine for the RX-8? Are you working on any kind of higher powered engine for the RX-8?
When will the RX-8 be available in the U.S. and give us an idea of its projected base price and the cars you think it will be competing against?

Will the next generation Miata be built off the RX-8 platform? What engine will it have? How far along are the designs?

Rumor heard at LA Auto Show

One of the reps told me there is serious talk about a limited edition run of, say, 1000 Miata's with RX8 type 13B's.

HOW serious is this talk.

What is the official release date of the RX-8?

Is there any plans for a turbo renesis in the future?

Will there be a rotary powered miata and/or another generation of
RX-7?

What is the official price range of the RX-8?

Thanks,
Mike

How committed is Ford/Mazda to the rotary engine in the long term? How much of the rotary engine's future hinges upon the Mazda RX-8's success?
Will the rotary engine ever see a nameplate other than Mazda (Ford, Lincoln, Mercury, Volvo, Jaguar, etc)?
Thanks,
Nate

How about the 2002 RX7?

Why doesn't Mazda bring the 2002 RX7 into the US and Canada!? It is already being manufactured (albeit right hand drive).

With the price of comparable sports cars from other manufacturers where they are, I'm sure that the RX7 could be competitively priced and would sell well.

I know that I would buy one!

Not quite as interested in the family version (RX8)!

Surprised this one hasn't been covered:

Will the RX-8 motor be available for sale seperately after say a year in the RX-8, and will it be a direct bolt in for the older 13B tranny's or will the RX-8 driveline be available for enthuesiast for installation into the RX-7?

Hey fellas,
My wrap-up is available at rotarynews.com

I think I answer most of the questions you've all asked, either in the interviews or in the concluding article.

Enjoy.

Hello fellow rotors, I'm new to this game so bare with me. I just purchased a 1993 rx-7 touring, red and tan int. I now have the whole engine torn down. The engine is clean and is in good shape and I was wondering if I should have the frt.,cntr, and rear housing lapped smooth before I reassemble it or should I let it go?
